9 Discontinued Fast Food Steak Menu Items That Deserve A Second Chance
When most people think of fast food, they think of standard ground beef burgers or chicken sandwiches, not steak. But there are more than a few fast food chains that have rolled out steak-based menu items over the years. Unfortunately, though, many of those dishes have now fallen by the wayside, being discontinued after weeks, months, or years on their respective menus. And as steak lovers, we think that some of them deserve to make a comeback and resurface on the fast food scene once again.
Let's take a closer look at some of these menu items, from chains like Taco Bell, Burger King, and beyond. There's a chance you may have tried some of them yourself in times past, and you might find yourself reminiscing about some of the glorious fast food meals of your past. Other items have been gone for so long, you may not have even been alive when they were still on their menus. But there's one thing all of these fast food menu items have in common: They placed steak in the spotlight. These are the discontinued fast food steak menu items that deserve a comeback.
Taco Bell's Cheesy Melt Grilled Steak Burrito
As much as we can get down with a good chicken or bean burrito, there's something about a steak burrito that really hits the spot when you're extra hungry. Ideally, you'll be close enough to one of the local restaurants found in our list of the best burritos in every state so you can get your hands on a steak burrito, but if you're not, Taco Bell might once have been your best option. That's because in August 2025, the chain released two different steak burritos, one of which was the Cheesy Melt Grilled Steak Burrito. This burrito contained three types of cheese, rice, sour cream, and jalapeño ranch, in addition to the steak itself. Priced at just $3, it was an excellent deal.
But apparently, good things can't last forever. By September 2025, this steak burrito had left the menu. It wasn't unexpected — it was originally rolled out as a limited-time item. There's no doubt that some customers were sad when it left, though. One Redditor said that they'd fallen in love with the burrito and expressed how sad they would be if it were taken off the menu. Another posted about how good it was on the r/tacobell subreddit, wondering how they could recreate it at home. We hope they managed to figure it out, but maybe they'll get lucky, and Taco Bell will bring it back someday.
Burger King's Steak Sandwich
A long time ago in fast food history, Burger King apparently tried to rebrand itself as more of a sit-down restaurant. For a while, starting in 1992, not only did the chain have a special dinner menu, but it also offered table service. Burger King's Steak Sandwich was a part of that special dinner menu, alongside dishes that were decidedly not sandwiches. These had to be eaten sitting down at a table with a fork and a knife.
The steak sandwich was basically just a burger stacked with onion rings and barbecue sauce, for a simple flavor combo that nonetheless sounds tasty. Not everyone was a fan of the dish, but for those who are looking for a nice crunch and savoriness in their sandwich, it must have been a solid option.
Considering just how long it's been since the Steak Sandwich was on the menu, this is one of those fast food items that we think probably isn't coming back anytime soon. That being said, maybe the chain will try to roll out a similar sandwich in the future. After all, Burger King also had a Chopped Beefsteak Sandwich back in the 1970s as well.
Wendy's Country Fried Steak Sandwich
Country fried steak is perhaps one of the greatest culinary inventions of all time. However, it's not something you tend to see at fast food restaurants a lot. But at one point in time, Wendy's actually rolled out a Country Fried Steak Sandwich, and we think it's a menu item that absolutely deserves to come back. The sandwich came out in 1990 and stuck around until 1994, when it was eventually discontinued. It's a sandwich that kept things simple: The country fried steak was the star of the show, of course, but it was adorned with a simple piece of lettuce and a spread of mayonnaise. When it came out, it was offered for only 99 cents. Good luck finding a steak-based fast food item for less than a dollar today!
You would think that after all these years, Wendy's fans would've forgotten about this sandwich completely. But in 2026, a Redditor posted on r/wendys about the sandwich, asking the chain to bring it back. Another Reddit user claimed that they stopped going to Wendy's when the fast food chain dropped this sandwich. Hopefully, Wendy's will someday hear the pleas of its country fried steak-loving customers.
Taco Bell's Steak Grilled Taquitos
If you've never had the pleasure of eating a taquito, you're missing out. This Mexican-American dish consists of tightly rolled tortillas packed with fillings. Although you can usually find them in the frozen section of the grocery store or even make them from scratch, you might also crave them when you're going through the fast food line. And once upon a time, Taco Bell would help to satisfy those cravings. In 2007, the chain came out with its Steak Grilled Taquitos, which were paired with a choice of dipping sauces (salsa, guacamole, or sour cream).
It's not totally clear when the taquitos were taken off the menu, but even today, there are still fans that reminisce about them. One Reddit user queried r/forgottenfoods about whether anyone remembered the dish, saying that it was their favorite comfort food at a difficult point in their childhood. Another listed it as an "epic" discontinued fast food item on r/AskReddit. Will it ever make a reappearance on the menu? We're not sure, but at least we can dream about the days when this item was once an option.
Whataburger's Steak Fajitas
Whataburger may be best known for its, well, burgers, but that doesn't mean you can only find sandwiches on its menu. If you were craving something beefy but didn't want a burger, there was a time when you could get your hands on the chain's Steak Fajitas, which were also called Beef Fajitas. According to a Facebook user who posted about the menu item in a Whataburger fan group, the fajitas came with sliced skirt steak and grilled onions, all wrapped up in a flour tortilla. Although we're not sure of the exact year the fajitas made their debut, we know they came out sometime in the early 2000s. When they were finally dropped from the menu, it's not quite clear either, but they're no longer available on the current menu.
On r/Whataburger, customers have complained about how the chain has declined in quality over the years. In response to these posts, one Redditor said that they dearly missed the beef fajitas from the chain. Another commenter similarly reminisced about eating these fajitas during their shifts at Whataburger when they worked there as a high schooler. It sounds like there are still at least a few people out there who would be quite happy if Whataburger decided to revive this menu item.
Jack in the Box's Sourdough Cheesesteak Melt
Jack in the Box is known for its particularly long menu, so it only makes sense that the chain would discontinue plenty of its offerings over time to make room for new products. However, that means customers have plenty of options to miss defunct dishes that no longer grace the menu. Jack in the Box's Sourdough Cheesesteak Melt is one of those items. It came out in 2012, but it was only slated to be on the menu for a limited time anyway. The sandwich contained steak, of course, along with melted cheese and fire-roasted peppers. Grilled onions and a mayonnaise-onion sauce added even more flavor to the equation. Of course, all of those toppings were served on sourdough bread for a unique, non-burger option.
A Redditor fondly remembered the Sourdough Cheesesteak Melt, writing that it was their go-to fast food dish when they were in college. It wasn't until later, though, that they realized that the sandwich was only around for a limited time and they could no longer get it from the fast food joint. Sometimes, though, fast food restaurants decide to rerun limited-time offers, so maybe we'll see this sandwich again in the future.
Burger King's Angus Bacon and Cheese Steak Burger
There was a time in fast food history when it seemed like fast food restaurants were always trying to serve up the biggest, beefiest, meatiest burgers around, often served with bacon. Burger King's Angus Bacon and Cheese Steak Burger fits perfectly into this fast food category. It got started on the Burger King menu in 2004, featuring a third-of-a-pound burger patty, lettuce, tomato, and a special burger sauce. In addition to these pretty standard burger toppings, this sandwich also contained American cheese and several strips of bacon, all served on a burger bun.
It's not clear when the Angus Bacon and Steakhouse Burger left the menu, since it sort of morphed into different menu items. After this menu item, there was a Steakhouse Burger and the Steakhouse XT, all offering that same intense beefiness. But the fact that the sandwich used Angus beef supposedly made it a higher-quality option than other fast food burgers out there. If only Burger King would focus that much on quality these days ...
Taco Bell's Grilled Steak Soft Taco
There are so many delicious tacos at Taco Bell. But did you know there was a time when you could actually get a Grilled Steak Soft Taco, too? Originally, the taco came stuffed with that grilled steak, along with cheddar cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, and a lime sauce, although different iterations of the product came with varying toppings. However, in 2020, in light of changes at the restaurant due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Taco Bell decided to drop several items from its menu, and the Grilled Steak Soft Taco happened to be one of them.
In 2024, though, Taco Bell decided to bring back a version of the dish, then simply dubbed the Steak Soft Taco. This taco was only rolled out at a limited number of locations, and it doesn't appear as if it ever made a nationwide appearance. While there are still beefy tacos available at Taco Bell, they're not quite the same as a specifically steak-based taco, so we hope that the chain will bring back this classic eventually.
Culver's Philly Ribeye Steak Sandwich
Culver's ButterBurgers are undoubtedly in the spotlight on the fast food chain's menu, but the beloved chain has more range than these basic sandwiches. Back in the late '90s, Culver's carried a Philly Ribeye Steak Sandwich, stacked with cheese and grilled onions. It was ostensibly designed to be sort of like a Philly cheesesteak, just in fast food form. A Reddit user posted an advertisement for the product on the r/Culvers subreddit, and it was met with nostalgia from commenters.
One commenter wrote that these sandwiches could sometimes get overcooked, but if they weren't, they were excellent. Another said it was a "shame" that this menu item had been discontinued. But still another commenter pointed out what's probably a sad truth. They wrote that if Culver's still had this sandwich on the menu today, it would probably be priced at $50, making it way too expensive for most fast food goers. If there were some way the chain could recreate this deliciousness in a slightly more affordable package, though, it sounds like there may be a lot of fans out there ready to eat it up.
