Review: Dunkin's Berry Battie Daydream Slaps A Pair Of Eyeballs On An Old Refresher And Calls It A Day
When we think of Halloween, we get excited for all the iconic seasonal events: trick-or-treating, dressing up, carving jack-o'-lanterns — except we're adults now, so we don't get the chance to have the quintessential Halloween experience that we once enjoyed. But in the last few years, some of the nation's most beloved fast food spots have been offering something else to get us in the spooky spirit. Chain restaurants around the U.S. have been dishing out Halloween-themed eats and drinks to make even the most insignificant little moments, like grabbing a quick drink on your way to work, feel a little more festive.
Enter America's favorite coffee chain, and one that never shies away from going big on the seasonal releases. Whether Dunkin is dropping a quartet of holiday menu items, an entire fleet of summer drinks, or a new season-specific celebrity collab, the brand always has something up its sleeve to keep us on our toes (for better or worse).
Halloween is the season of pumpkin, apple, and warm autumn spices, but Dunkin' is taking the famous flavors of the holiday in a different direction. The brand new Berry Battie Daydream Refresher launches today alongside the return of an adorable spider donut that could melt the heart of even the most vehement arachnophobes. I got a taste of the brand new drink, and here, I'll put my years of barista experience and Dunkin' patronage to the test via an unbiased review. Could Berry Battie unseat pumpkin and candy apple to be the new face of spooky-season flavor? Or should she step aside and leave berry and citrus to summer?
Methodology
To taste and review Dunkin's brand new Halloween-themed Refresher, I tried it in-store when it was chilled and fresh. Although Dunkin' encourages customizations and secret-menu orders, I kept the Berry Battie Daydream Refresher pure and unadulterated, so I could get an accurate sense of the flavor Dunkin' was going for. After trying it fresh, I also let it sit for a little while to get a sense of its flavor after the ice had melted a bit. I wanted to see if this drink was one worth sipping slowly, or if it was more of a finish-in-three-long-gulps kind of beverage.
I kept the bulk of my judgments about the new drink centered on freshness, likeness to real fruit, and whether or not I thought Dunkin' fans would be likely to order this drink all October long (and lament when it leaves the menu for good). Since the drink is all about America's favorite scary holiday, I also determined whether or not a sip of the Berry Battie Daydream Refresher gave me that nostalgic, cozy October feeling.
Having tried and reviewed so many Dunkin' Refreshers, I was also looking to see if this berry-based drink could make a name for itself among Dunkin's exhaustive menu. Over the years, we've seen a deluge of berry-forward Refreshers, so I wondered how this Halloween drink would stand out among Dunkin's laundry list of other flavors.
Taste test
The Berry Battie Daydream Refresher combines blueberry and berry-clementine syrups with oat milk and, for the Halloween essence, a dollop of Purple Marshmallow Cold Foam. When I scooped it up from the pick-up window at Dunkin', I was a little bummed to realize that it looked just like any other berry-based Refresher — until I saw them. Two spooky little ghost eyes (or bat eyes?) peeking out from the top of the drink. This is peak Halloween, folks.
I tried Dunkin's Berry-Clementine Refreshers this summer, so I figured the Berry Battie Daydream would taste pretty similar, with the only differences being the marshmallow foam and some blueberry flavor. The bulk of the drink ended up being almost identical to the summer Refreshers; I really couldn't detect even a hint of blueberry, and let me tell you, I searched for it. The marshmallow flavor was very subtle, but it gave the drink a bit of candy sweetness that made it a little less medicinal. Still, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't reminded of NyQuil.
Since the berry and clementine flavors combined to yield an artificial, medicine-like taste, the cute little eyeballs floating on the cold foam ended up being my favorite part of the drink. Don't worry, they're made of white chocolate — the flavor of which paired surprisingly well with the marshmallow foam. For the record, the Berry Battie Daydream Refresher matched the flavor of Dunkin's returning spider donut, so they were fun to snack on together as an adorable bat-and-spider duo (I was only a little scared while enjoying my treats).
Final thoughts
If the Berry Battie Daydream Refresher was the only Halloween release from Dunkin', I'd be disappointed, to say the least. But considering the chain also unveiled a Pumpkin Cloud Dunkalatte (one of our favorite fall fast food drinks of the year) and some green apple-themed drinks, a fruity Refresher to round out the spook-tastic menu seems appropriate. On its own, though, it can't really stand out against all the other Refreshers from Dunkin'. It's eerily similar to the last berry-clementine drink I tried, and its likeness to something from the cold-and-flu aisle of CVS is too close for comfort.
Instead of this revamped fruit flavor, I would have liked to see a return of Dunkin's ube drinks from 2024 to act as the purple offering on the Halloween menu. That being said, compared to the other Refreshers I've had the (dis)pleasure of trying lately, it brought something a little more unique to the table. I would have liked a more potent, Peep-like marshmallow flavor in the cold foam, but the subtle vanilla creaminess gave the drink more depth of flavor than most fruity Refreshers from Dunkin'.
However, there was one key element that distinguished this drink from other Dunkin' Refreshers, and the vast majority of beverages all over the world, for that matter: it had a face. When was the last time you looked into your drink's eyes as you took a sip? For this reason, it's worth scooping up from Dunkin', if not for the photo op alone.
Price, availability, and nutrition
Starting on October 14, 2026, you can pick up the brand new Berry Battie Daydream Refresher at Dunkin' and grab a returning spider donut to snack on alongside it. The Refresher is the start of the October 14 release, with the spider donut being the returning fave, but there are also some ghost-sprinkled donuts and Munchkins to get excited about as part of the launch. Two days after the initial release, on October 16, Dunkin' customers who purchase a Berry Battie Daydream Refresher can scoop up a free limited-edition Dunkin' Bat Cup Sleeve while supplies last.
I picked up a small Berry Battie Daydream Refresher for $4.87 (before tax) at my local Dunkin' in Northeastern Pennsylvania, which compares to the prices of all Refreshers that include cold foam. Keep in mind that prices in urban areas and major cities will probably be a bit higher.
A small size Berry Battie Daydream contains 19 grams of fat (1.5 grams of which are saturated fat), 61 grams of carbs, 95 milligrams of sodium, 51 grams of sugar (all of which is added sugar), and 2 grams of protein. One small-size drink clocks in at 430 calories.
