Starbucks' Best Crème Frappuccino On The Menu Isn't Vanilla Bean
As the saying goes, nothing beats a classic. Yet, while the Vanilla Bean Crème Frappuccino has definitely been a sweet and simple go-to for many Starbucks fans over the years, it might not actually be the best Frappuccino flavor that the chain has to offer. In our latest ranking of every Starbucks Crème Frappuccino, the results revealed that the chain's matcha-flavored sipper is truly the best of the best.
Starbucks' Matcha Crème Frappuccino is made by blitzing milk, ice, classic syrup, and matcha powder, and then topping with whipped cream. Like its vanilla bean counterpart, this matcha-flavored Frappuccino shares a similarly rich and milkshake-esque texture, but offers way more gustatory complexity. While the vanilla version leaves something to be desired, the unique flavors of Starbucks' Matcha Crème Frappuccino come together in an amazingly balanced way. According to our taste tester, the grassiness of the green tea offsets the beverage's decadent base and even tames the sweetness. "It feels like the best of both worlds, and a drink that both matcha lovers and skeptics alike could agree on," shared our tester.
Although it's just one of many matcha drinks offered at Starbucks, the Matcha Crème Frappuccino has been a favorite since it was added to the drink menu. Aside from its great flavor and texture, the blended drink also has serious visual appeal thanks to what our taster dubs its "mesmerizing pastel hue."
Frappuccino fans (mostly) agree
Many Starbucks patrons have sung the praises of Starbucks' Matcha Crème Frappuccino online. One Redditor wrote, "Matcha Frappuccino is the best! No matter what season it is." Others agree, with another fan dubbing it "sooo good." As for what makes it a success, someone else explained, "It's not overly sweet, which I love." Impressive on its own, some enthusiasts have even shared different ways to customize the Frappuccino, such as swapping in coconut milk for a creamier base, introducing a shot of espresso for a caffeine boost, or adding strawberry puree for a fruity twist. Others have even suggested adding vanilla bean syrup — who says two classics can't team up?
Not everyone, however, is on the same page when it comes to this Frappuccino flavor. Unlike the iconic Vanilla Bean Crème Frappuccino, which boasts a simple, sweet-and-creamy profile, the Matcha Bean Crème Frappuccino has an herbaceousness that doesn't seem to be a hit for all Starbucks goers. One Redditor went as far as to say the flavor "tastes like grass clippings," to which another replied, "I agree and that's why I love it lol. It tastes like spring to me." But, as another stated, "If you don't mind the earthy, bitter flavor of matcha, it'll be perfect for you."
At the end of the day, the best Frappuccino flavor really boils down to preference. While some Starbucks fans may be staunchly against the flavor, we (along with many others) think that this matcha-forward marvel is simply the best there is on offer — that is, until Starbucks drops another new flavor!
