10 Canned Tequila Cocktail Brands In 2026, Ranked
If you're a fan of tequila cocktails, this ranking is for you. I'm a tequila enthusiast myself, and I find few things more refreshing than a shaken margarita made with good-quality tequila, fresh lime juice, and a hint of agave. For me, the cocktail is the quintessential marriage of tangy and sweet, complemented by earthy undertones of premium tequila. But let's face it, sometimes we want to quench our thirst without bellying up to the bar or whipping out the cocktail shaker. In those instances, ready-to-drink cocktails fit the bill.
Ready-to-drink (RTD) beverages aim to make our lives easier by offering classic cocktails (and inventive variations) in convenient cans. You can sip from the can or pour the drink over ice — either way, it's a time-saver. RTD cocktails are especially appreciated at parks, beaches, backyard barbecues, and any time you don't have (nor want) a mixologist on hand.
To help you navigate this evolving category, I went to work and sampled every canned tequila cocktail I could get my hands on. As a food and beverage specialist, I took the task seriously and came up with a ranking that starts with my least favorite and ends with my top choice. Note: All products were great, and if you're looking for a tasty RTD tequila cocktail, you can't go wrong with any of the items here. I have my reasons for my ranking, as noted below.
Some recommendations are based on firsthand impressions of promotional materials and products provided by the manufacturer.
10. Jose Cuervo
Since Jose Cuervo is the oldest tequila brand in the world, I was confident its canned cocktails would be fabulous. What started as the first brand of individually bottled tequila in 1852, Jose Cuervo is now a proud member of the RTD family.
I sampled four varieties of Jose Cuervo sparkling cocktails — the Paloma, pink lemonade, classic margarita, and strawberry margarita. All were pleasantly bubbly, and each had its own flavor profile. I'll start with the strawberry margarita since it was my favorite. The fresh strawberry flavor came shining through, and I could detect notes of iconic Jose Cuervo tequila. The classic margarita was good, but there were others on this list with a fresher lime flavor. The label states that the drink contains "the flavor of zesty natural lime," but it didn't taste like fresh lime. I enjoyed the Paloma and how the grapefruit married with the tequila, but there were other Palomas in this lineup that were far better. For the pink lemonade, I couldn't detect the "flavors of ripe raspberries" as indicated on the label, but I did notice the lemon zest.
All four varieties contain 5.9% ABV, which is about the same as a 12-ounce craft beer, or about half the standard 5-ounce glass of table wine. If you prefer Jose Cuervo tequila, you will likely enjoy the brand's RTD beverages. I found all others on this list tasted fresher and more complex, so that's why I ranked this brand tenth.
9. White Claw
The makers of White Claw hard seltzer stepped into the malt beverage category with Claw Tails, premium concoctions that take the stress out of cocktail mixing. One of the varieties of Claw Tails is the mango margarita, so I added it here for comparison.
Like a commingling of a cocktail and a seltzer, I found the mango margarita was delightfully (and lightly) sparkling, which was both refreshing and invigorating. Next, I loved the flavor of the mango in this drink. Made with real juice, it was perfectly sweet, but not cloyingly sugary. I also liked how the fresh lime juice cut some of the mango's sweetness without being too tart. The Claw Tails mango margarita has 7% ABV, but I'll be honest, I couldn't really detect the tequila. For some folks, that's preferred. But for this ranking, I thought tasting the actual tequila was important.
I enjoyed the fresh flavors of this cocktail, but since Claw Tails only had one tequila flavor in the variety pack (the others included a wild berry mojito, strawberry cosmo, and peach daiquiri), I had to place it ninth on the list. Brands with several tequila options to choose from were awarded more sought-after spots in this ranking.
8. Lake Hour
Like Claw Tails above, Lake Hour had one tequila product to try (the brand offers a wider variety of vodka-based RTD cocktails). The lightly carbonated watermelon cucumber cocktail is made with premium tequila, fresh watermelon juice, and real cucumber, and it was abundantly clear to me that the drink was made with actual fresh juice.
The label states that "subtle" is what it's aiming for, and that was mostly my experience. That said, I thought the watermelon and cucumber flavors were bright and identifiable, and I enjoyed them much more than another watermelon cocktail on this list (from On the Rocks). It was as if I was nibbling on fresh watermelon and cucumber slices while chilling with a cocktail. I didn't really taste the tequila, but I found the drink exceptionally refreshing. The Lake Hour watermelon cucumber premium tequila cocktail contains 5% ABV, which is equivalent to a 12-ounce bottle of beer.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Lake Hour RTD beverage, so it was hard to rank it eighth. The only reason it didn't make it higher is that there was only one variety to sample. If the brand adds more flavors to its lineup, I'm certain they will be equally amazing.
7. On the Rocks
On the Rocks launched bottled, ready-to-serve cocktails on board a major airline in 2016, and in 2024, the brand introduced a bartender-inspired, RTD canned cocktail line. I was thrilled to add On the Rocks to this ranking, especially because the cocktails were delicious.
The sparkling lime margarita is made with Tres Generaciones tequila, house-made triple sec, and tangy lime. The fizzy drink is sweetened with agave syrup, and the marriage of blanco tequila, orange liqueur, and honey-like agave syrup gives the beverage an authentic margarita flair. The effervescence was enjoyable, but not so bubbly that it tickled my nose. The sparkling watermelon margarita is made with Hornitos blanco tequila and house-made triple sec, and the added carbonation gives the drink a nice, short-lived froth. I liked the watermelon flavor (just not as much as the Lake Hour version with cucumber) and thought it was a nice change from the classic strawberry margarita. The drink is sweetened with cane sugar, but it's not overtly sweet.
Both varieties of On the Rocks contain 10% ABV, which is equivalent to a 5-ounce glass of white wine. Thanks to the fresh fruit flavor, they didn't taste as boozy as they are. I liked both flavors, but neither one wowed me like the other brands on this list. The flavors were nice, and the drinks were refreshing, but there were many others that were a lot more impressive. For that reason, I ranked it seventh.
6. High Noon
High Noon is no stranger to the RTD world. In 2019, the brand launched a line of vodka-based hard seltzers, and thanks to its popularity, flavor options multiplied for the next several years. Realizing tequila fans were left out, High Noon debuted a quartet of tequila-based seltzers in 2023. I decided to try all four.
I'll start with the lime tequila seltzer because that was my favorite. Made with tequila from Mexico, real lime juice, and seltzer, I found this beverage very similar to an actual margarita. The tequila was tasty, and the lime added just enough tang to excite the palate. Next up was grapefruit, and it was truly refreshing. The flavor reminded me of the Paloma — blanco tequila, grapefruit, and lime — and I liked it. The strawberry tequila seltzer was nicely fruity, and the light volume of bubbles (mostly at the outset) left a pleasant tingle on my tongue. If you're a strawberry fan, this one is for you. I'm mentioning the passionfruit last because it was my least favorite. It was good, and if you like passionfruit, you'll like this invigorating tequila drink; it just wasn't my preference.
All varieties of High Noon have 4.5% ABV, which is about the same as a light beer. I enjoyed all four flavors of High Noon tequila seltzer, so it was tough to place them sixth in this ranking. The only reason they landed here is that other brands had better flavor and complexity.
5. Margs
With a name like Margs, it must be good, right? That was my experience. I tried four Margs flavors and found each one was truly unique and had a playful amount of bubbles. The most distinctive flavor was the sparkling coconut margarita made with tequila, triple sec, and natural coconut and lime flavors. For me, it was reminiscent of bubbly coconut water, but with a tequila finish. If you like the taste of coconut, you will adore this one. And if you choose to try it, I suggest you rim the glass with toasted coconut or sweetened cocoa powder (for an Almond Joy cocktail). The mango margarita was fittingly sweet and full of fruit flavor. I appreciated that it was colored with fruit and vegetable juices, nothing artificial.
The classic margarita tasted just like a marg should — it was infused with lime and slightly sweet from the triple sec. I also enjoyed the spicy margarita very much. I didn't experience the heat immediately, but it evolved over time and was fiery. When you don't have the time (or ingredients) to make a homemade spicy margarita, this one does the trick just fine.
All varieties of Margs have 5% ABV and are made with tequila from Mexico. I enjoyed the Margs lineup (and flavor of the tequila) more than the brands above, so that's why I placed it fifth. There were four brands I preferred more, so that's why it isn't higher up in the ranking.
4. Cazadores
Fans of Cazadores tequila unite — the brand has ready-to-drink tequila products, and they're dang good. The company has been producing tequila since 1922, which means it's had over 100 years of practice perfecting the recipe and production process.
Since the RTD category is all about convenience, Cazadores joined the celebration with two canned tequila flavors. The margarita is made with Cazadores blanco tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, natural flavors, and sparkling water. I liked the commingling of tequila and orange. I just wish there was more tequila flavor; I detected mostly the orange liqueur. Cazadores also crafted a Paloma that features the brand's blanco tequila and grapefruit soda. I liked this better than the margarita, but still wished the distinct, clean, citrusy flavor of Cazadores' blanco was more apparent. If you like fizzy drinks where the tequila flavor is muted, you will enjoy both beverages. I enjoy the essence of citrus fruits and fragrant herbs in the Cazadores blanco, and I would have liked to see those nuances in the canned drinks.
The Cazadores RTD tequila seltzers both contain 5% ABV, which is equivalent to a regular beer. Again, Cazadores blanco tequila is cherished for its clean, citrusy notes and clean finish, and while you'll get a hint of that with these drinks, you're better off sipping it neat for the full effect. I ranked Cazadores fourth for that reason, as I preferred brands where the spirit of the tequila was more notable.
3. Cutwater
I'm thrilled we made it to the top three because this trio was my favorite. In fact, the coveted top spot was a no-brainer (in my opinion), but it was difficult to decide between silver and bronze. Since I had to choose, I placed Cutwater third.
I sampled four Cutwater flavors — spicy mango margarita, Paloma, mango margarita, and lime margarita. In my view, the zesty Paloma was the darling of the bunch. Unlike many other brands, I detected the tequila aroma as soon as I popped the lid. The drink had nice effervescence and thirst-quenching notes of grapefruit and lime. But what I loved most was the earthy, peppery flavor of the tequila. The spicy mango margarita was spicy and had a nice balance of smokiness and sweetness. If you like spicy margaritas, you will love this one. The lime margarita was nice, but I would have preferred a stronger tequila flavor coupled with the fresh lime and triple sec. The mango margarita was sweeter than the others and tasted like a tropical vacation was infused into the can. It wasn't quite coconut but had that vibe.
The Paloma has 7% ABV, and the other three contain 12.5% ABV, which is the highest of the brands I sampled. I truly enjoyed Cutwater — the fruit flavors were fruity, the tequila was warm and herbal, and the bubbles were stimulating. I would have ranked Cutwater higher, but I liked two other brands more.
2. South Norte
South Norte easily made it to the top two in this ranking. I sampled six of the brand's tequila cocktails, and each one was agreeably effervescent and incredibly flavorful. The tequila club soda with hibiscus and lime was tangy, refreshingly bubbly, and finished smooth. The tequila club soda with orange was citrusy but not overly so; I could still taste the tequila. Both club sodas have 5.5% ABV.
Next up was the Paloma, and it was outstanding. There were just enough tangy grapefruit and tart lime flavors to balance the subtle notes of tequila. I also loved the Matador's tropical flavor; it was crammed with fresh pineapple but (thankfully) wasn't reminiscent of a piña colada. The Mexican Mule was bold and delivered strong notes of tequila, ginger beer, and lime (the ginger beer left a spicy tingle on my tongue). The Paloma, Matador, and Mexican Mule all have 7% ABV, which is equivalent to 8 ounces of malt liquor.
I saved the best for last — the margarita. I took one sip and was smitten. It was as if I were drinking a freshly made, hand-crafted margarita from a salted rim. The tequila was smoky yet smooth and was enhanced with triple sec, lime juice, salt, and a splash of orange. This was an absolute winner in my book. South Norte didn't rank number one because one brand had a stronger RTD tequila lineup, but I will be buying this brand again.
1. Cayman Jack
Welcome to the canned tequila cocktail winner — Cayman Jack. I sampled eight different margarita flavors, and each one was decidedly memorable.
The grilled pineapple margarita is peerless. Made with pineapple juice and blue agave nectar, this fizzy drink tasted like grilled fruit, and the smoky essence added depth and complexity. The sweet heat peach tasted like fresh summer peaches with a touch of tequila. The smoky orange delivered the perfect balance of citrus and smokiness, and wasn't overly sugary. The blood orange margarita delivered a deeper, more complex orange flavor, and the juice paired well with the tequila's earthy notes.
The strawberry margarita is made with real strawberry juice, and the drink tastes like fresh berries were muddled in the can. This was the best strawberry flavor of all the brands I tested. The same is true of the mango margarita — it had the best mango flavor overall, complemented with a hint of lime. The two lime flavors — regular and spicy — were reminiscent of freshly made cocktails from the bar. Fresh, tangy, and sweet elements were perfectly balanced. The spicy margarita had a touch of heat, but wasn't overpowering, so it was easy to sip. All Cayman Jack RTD margaritas have 5.8% ABV, which is equivalent to the average craft beer.
Giving Cayman Jack the gold medal was easy. There's something for every craving; the flavors were on point, the tequila was delicious, and there were just enough bubbles to keep things exciting.
Methodology
I had 36 beverages to sample for this ranking, so I took my time (and stayed home). I thoroughly enjoyed every single product I tasted, so I had to dig deep to place them in a ranking.
To test each brand, I poured the beverage over ice and let it chill for a bit. I chose not to use a rimmed glass for fear that the salt (or sugar) would compromise the inherent flavor of the cocktail. While pouring, I noted the amount of fizz, or bubbles, in the glass. Some brands were made with club soda and others with spring water, but they were all very similar when it came to the volume of head. I didn't factor bubbles much into my ranking decisions; I just noted how the effervescence complemented the drinks.
When tasting each product, I evaluated a variety of factors. First, I observed whether the drink was balanced between tangy and sweet. If it were a fruit-based drink, I assessed whether I could sense the nuances of the fruit. Since all products were made with tequila, I wondered if I could taste the tequila. I like the herbal, earthy flavor of tequila, so if I could detect that, I prefer it. Lastly, I valued variety. I realize that's not wholly fair to brands with one flavor, but, in my opinion, brands with more choices will appeal to a larger audience. For the purposes of this ranking, I felt that was important.
