The Starbucks drive-through line may be convenient, but it sure is expensive. That's why we love a good Starbucks copycat recipe — they're delicious, and they're easier on your wallet. Case in point: The copycat bacon, gouda and egg sandwich we spotted on TikTok, which uses all Walmart ingredients and comes out to less than $2 per sandwich.
Simply start with six eggs — you can get 12 Great Value Large White Eggs for $1.67 — and whisk them with a splash of Great Value Heavy Whipping Cream, priced at $2.96 for 16 ounces. Add salt and pepper and pour the egg mixture into a greased quarter sheet pan or 9x13" baking dish. Lay out half a package of Great Value Hickory Smoked Bacon (under $5 for 12 ounces) on another pan lined with parchment paper or foil — a crucial step for cooking bacon in the oven. Bake both pans for 10 minutes in a 350 degree Fahrenheit oven. Remove the eggs, then flip the bacon and cook for 10 more minutes or until crispy.
Then, assemble your sandwiches. Layer a square of egg, a slice of Great Value Deli Style Sliced Gouda Cheese ($1.67 for 12 slices), and two slices of bacon on each of your Marketside Italian Style Ciabatta Rolls ($3.98 for six). For six eggs, an ounce and a half of heavy cream, six pieces of bacon, six slices of cheese, and six rolls, your total comes to $8.27 — or just $1.38 per sandwich. If you're frequenting a Denver-area Starbucks, that's more than $4.00 less than the sandwich costs in-store, where they cost $5.45 each.
How to enjoy your bacon, gouda and egg sandwich at home
Once your ingredients are cooked and your sandwiches assembled, it's time to either enjoy your breakfast or contemplate storage. If you're going to eat the breakfast sandwiches right away (these would be perfect for a weekend brunch with friends), place them on a tray and pop them back into the oven for a few minutes to let the cheese melt. Serve alongside your favorite condiments, like our favorite all-purpose hot sauces.
If you're a meal prep person, these sandwiches freeze perfectly. After a few minutes in the oven to melt the cheese, take them out to cool. Wrap each sandwich individually in parchment paper, then tuck them all in a zip-top bag to prevent freezer burn. For the tastiest (and least rubbery) sandwich when it's time to reheat, take your sandwich out the night before and allow it to thaw overnight in the fridge. Then, simply wrap it in a paper towel and pop it in the microwave. Heat at 50% power for one minute, flip the sandwich, and repeat for another minute. Pro tip: Remove the bread and pop it in the toaster before enjoying for a sandwich that tastes fresh and new.
