Whether it was Betty Crocker's Soda-Licious Candy in the '90s or Wonka's Super Skrunch Bar in the '70s, thinking of your favorite long-lost candies is sure to bring back nostalgic, sugar-filled memories. If you were old enough to eat sugar anytime between 1959 and 2023 — which we're willing to bet you were – there's a high probability that you came across Pixy Stix: Those tiny paper straws filled with pure sugar. If it's been a while since you've thought of this candy, you're not alone, because they were discontinued, and almost nobody noticed.

Pixy Stix were produced by Ferrara, the company that also makes popular candies like Nerds, Jelly Belly, Trolli, and the Pixy Stix' long-lost cousin, Fun Dip. Pixy Stix became widely available in 1959 in a variety of flavors, such as grape, orange, cherry, Maui punch, strawberry, lime, and blue raspberry. They were also available in two sizes: the original small paper straws and the Giant Pixy Stix, which was once 2 feet long and packaged in plastic. It's unclear when, exactly, Ferrara took Pixy Stix off the shelves, but fans have speculated that it was around 2023, with no public announcement or news by Ferrara. It's also unclear why they were discontinued in the first place. One Redditor said that it was an ingredient sourcing issue, but Ferrara has yet to issue an official statement.

While the discontinuation of Pixy Stix was under-the-radar, some fans on Reddit have expressed their sadness about the loss of this classic, sugary candy. "This is so sad," one fan wrote. "Pixy died and I didn't even know about it until now," another commented. Other fans have been keeping their eyes peeled for any last remaining Pixy Stix that might be hidden in the backs of candy shops and stores, but the majority of fans aren't having much luck finding the now-nostalgic candy.

If you're saddened by the loss of Pixy Stix, luckily, there's a similar candy available called Silly Stix Sour Filled Candy Straws. They're available at Dollar Tree and at Walmart and are essentially the same thing as Pixy Stix. However, despite being a pretty identical replacement, one fan on Reddit said that they're "nowhere near as good" as the classic candy. On the other hand, another wrote in the same thread that they're "pretty similar," so it'll be up to you to determine whether Silly Stix make the cut.
