If you're a fan of Burger King's Whopper but feel like its current price is too expensive, there's a simple hack that could save you money. Some menu hacks take more effort than they're worth; you have to add a bunch of strange items, and what you make in the end is kind of silly or unnecessary. For this hack, though, all you need to do is order a Double Cheeseburger with the standard Whopper toppings. You'll get a nearly identical burger for under $5. Instead of combining random ingredients to make something outlandish, you're recreating a standard menu item — rather, a tweaked version that's also more affordable.

A standard Double Cheeseburger from Burger King comes with pickles, cheese, mustard, and ketchup on a sesame seed bun. In some locations, you may end up paying a little more than $5 for your custom burger, but ordering a Whopper can end up costing over $10. At that point, the custom burger is more than $4 cheaper.

You may be able to save even more with a customized Whopper Jr. At some locations, a Whopper Jr. with an extra patty may be a few cents cheaper than the Double Cheeseburger. It's basically the same burger as the custom Double Cheeseburger, minus the cheese. An extra patty might only cost a dollar extra, too, giving you a similar amount of beef along with the extra toppings for just around $4.50. 

That said, if you want cheese, the price goes up again, making the Double Cheeseburger the better value since it already includes two slices. Customers on Reddit have pointed out that the Double Cheeseburger may be a better deal overall than either the Whopper or the Double Whopper Jr. "Just get a cheeseburger and add the toppings, it's a lot cheaper," said one Redditor.
