Remember that old cookie tin collecting dust in your pantry? We're not reminding you to toss it away. No, we're telling you to use it as an inventive, sustainable way to say goodbye to cluttered countertops by transforming it into a charming kitchen container, be it a utensil holder, fruit bowl, or receptacle for dry ingredients, recipes, or whatever piles up on the counter with no place to go. Instead of spending money on a new storage container for your countertops, repurposing an old cookie container makes use of something you already have on hand.

You might be thinking that a cookie tin typically has a very specific aesthetic (read: holiday vibes). While you can certainly use an old cookie tin as-is, you can also get creative with painting or decorating your tin to fit right in, or accentuate, the style of your kitchen.

To give it a fresh look, just spray it with a coat or two of spray paint. Use a nice neutral or accent color for a fruit bowl, K-cup holder, or kitchen counter container to hold items like chip clips, rubber bands, and recipe cards. Or add a fun pop of bold color. Take your DIY kitchen project a step further and adhere decorative paper, fabric, or accents to the side of the tin. This could include gluing on pearls or bows for a vintage look, or adding words or image designs.

More creative ways to repurpose old cookie tins

Once you try repurposing an old cookie tin to organize your kitchen counter space and reduce all that clutter, you won't look back. And it's likely you'll want to use the same idea in other areas of your house or kitchen. If you have extra cookie tins hanging around or find some vintage tins at the thrift shop, there are lots of creative countertop storage opportunities waiting to happen.

For example, rectangular cookie tins with lids make perfect storage containers for coffee and tea. Just give them a fresh coat of paint and label them accordingly. Old cookie tins of differing sizes are also great for making tiered storage containers to hold spices or dry food items. The tin lids can also be repurposed into cake stands for holding various baked treats that would normally take up precious counter space. They'll require a little bit of creativity, just like when repurposing old kitchen items into bird feeders: For the legs of the stands and to create tiers, use smaller tin cans or old glasses as support.

Beyond food storage, you can turn old cookie tins into candle holders or even planters for the kitchen windowsill. You'll see, the container opportunities are really endless and go much further than the original intended use of storing and gifting cookies.

#thriftedvsstyled From trash to treasure! ♻️✨ I turned this old cookie tin into a high-end decorative bowl for my kitchen counter. All it took was some cabinet knobs, a bit of trim, and a little creativity. Who knew upcycling could look this good? I saw another creator do something similar. I would give them credit.. but I can't recall where I saw this. #DIYDecor #UpcycleProject #HomeDecorHacks #BudgetFriendlyDecor Repurpose Kitchen Decor Ideas DIY Home
