It Wasn't Our Highest-Rated, But This Buc-Ee's Dessert Is The Most Comforting By Far

Buc-ee's has been having quite the moment. The Texas-based gas station chain, which operates the world's largest convenience store, has become a go-to destination thanks to TikTok. In fact, there are even plans in place to open more locations in the coming years. Apart from the beaver-covered merch, award-winning restrooms, and famous jerky wall, one of the biggest draws of Buc-ee's is its massive food selection, with everything from fresh brisket sandwiches to burritos on offer. You can even get some pretty solid desserts, including a comforting pie cup that could win over any skeptic.

A Tasting Table writer set out to sample and rank 20 Buc-ee's desserts and the Coconut Cream Pie Cup was one of their favorites. The grab-and-go dessert, which comes in a small, easy-to-hold plastic cup, features a crunchy cookie crumble crust, a filling of creamy coconut pudding, and a sweet whipped topping. It's just like eating a slice of a classic coconut cream pie, but in a much more convenient package. 

Our reviewer loved the bold flavor of the toasted coconut, which they felt tasted very natural. The cookie crumbles also provided the perfect textural balance for the soft filling, as did the addition of shredded coconut. Since it wouldn't be very easy to eat while driving, the cup didn't nab the top spot on the list, but our tester thought it was by far the most comforting dessert at Buc-ee's. It was rich, creamy and indulgent — it just wasn't built for one-handed snacking.

Buc-ee's desserts are often underrated, but it seems the Coconut Cream Pie Cup has broken through that barrier, if online chatter is anything to go by. A Redditor said it was the Buc-ee's item they always purchase without hesitation, calling it "amazing." Another enthusiast on Facebook wrote, "My dad is the biggest coconut cream pie fan and LOVES this." TikTok users have also posted videos dedicated to the dessert. One reviewer said, "People talk about the banana pudding, they talk about the chocolate pudding, this is by far better than both of those combined ... Feels like a tropical paradise but it also just feels like you're snuggled up at home." Another TikToker shared, "If you love coconut, this is elite."

If you don't have time to stop and eat, our tester recommends trying the Small Batch Pecan Trio or Peanut Butter Cookie. They also loved the Sugar Cookie Salted Caramel Ice Cream Sandwich, and, of course, the legendary Beaver Nuggets, which are the snack you can't miss at Buc-ee's. Any of these would be great to follow up an iconic Buc-ee's brisket sandwich, but if you're looking for comfort, the Coconut Cream Pie Cup is the way to go, especially if you pair it with a hot cup of coffee or iced tea.
