Though La Brasa isn't a Mexican restaurant, one of its signature dishes is: the humble yet divine taco de carnitas. Chef/owner Daniel Bojorquez says it's "like our burger." Bojorquez, who worked under celebrated chef/restaurateur Frank McClelland at famed fine dining haunt L'Espalier, sources his meat, produce and dairy from local New England farms, and his menu rotates according to the availability and seasonality of ingredients. A great late-night menu—cacio e pepe at midnight, anyone?—modern interiors and an adjoining market make La Brasa a must-go. However, the hallmark of this East Somerville restaurant is the open kitchen and wood-burning stove, emphasizing the importance (and influence) of the backyard barbecue.
