It's hard to believe that the end of 2026 is fast approaching. Time flies when you're eating good food, and Tasting Table has found the best bites from various fast food restaurants that you should order. If you're in the mood for Mexican (or, at least the fast food variety), skip Taco Bell and Del Taco in favor of "West-Mex" brand Taco John's, instead. While it might not be as widespread as Taco Bell, Taco John's has been serving its version of fast Mexican food to the Midwest since 1969, and has expanded to over 300 locations in multiple states. And, among the 10 best fast food hidden gems we found in 2026 was Taco John's Stuffed Grilled Taco. 

The Stuffed Grilled Taco has been an iconic menu item for quite some time, but the chain has made improvements on the recipe for its latest 2026 version. It features nacho cheese, a crispy taco shell, ground beef, a four-cheese blend, taco sauce, white corn chips, and sour cream stuffed into a soft flour tortilla that gets a quick stint on the grill. Previously, the Stuffed Grilled Taco didn't have the corn chips and cheese blend, making the current version cheesier and crunchier. Not only can you find a ground beef and cheese filling, but Taco John's has also offered limited-time variations like a Spicy Chicken Stuffed Grilled Taco and a Guacamole Ranch Stuffed Grilled Taco, both with chicken as the main protein.

Reviewers on both YouTube and Reddit were complimentary of the taste and texture of Taco John's latest Stuffed Grilled Taco varieties. Customers on Reddit compared it to an older 2018 version, agreeing that it's an improvement thanks to the cheese blend and crushed tortilla chips. Crushed tortilla chips are the crunchier, cornier element to contrast the soft outer tortilla, while the shredded cheese brings more richness and also adds a stickier and chewier element to supplement the nacho cheese. 

One Redditor thought Taco John's most recent riff on the Stuffed Grilled Taco was superior because, as they wrote, "it's like more symmetrical... like all the ingredients are spaced out better." For many, this is a vast improvement from older versions. To that effect, another Redditor wrote, "I hate getting a bite of just tortilla and cheese... Then all the meat is in the middle." 

A reviewer on YouTube also praised the taste of the beef and cheese for being "very good," although another YouTuber said that the beef is "more akin to the chili sauce you'd put a hot dog." Still, a soupier filling isn't a bad thing, especially if you've got plenty of toppings, chips, and two different taco shells as a tasty barrier to seal it all in.
