The Best Nesquik Milk By Far Gives This Classic Flavor A Protein Boost
Nesquik milk is one of those drinks that brings you back to childhood within the first sip. But sometimes the best nostalgic foods and beverages are equally (or more) satisfying with a slight upgrade. In a recent taste test of seven Nesquik milks ranked worst to best, one classic flavor with a protein boost reigned supreme: Nesquik Chocolate Protein Power. Nesquik's protein-boosted chocolate milk is just about as classic — and refreshingly indulgent — as it gets.
Indeed, the fact that the brand added protein powder to its original flavor made it even more enticing to our taste tester. Nesquik's protein chocolate milk has 23 grams of protein in every bottle; an extra nutritional boost that wasn't part of your childhood memories of the nostalgic bottled chocolate milk drink. Even with the milk protein concentrate in the recipe, however, the beverage still is silky smooth.
Compared to other varieties, the chocolate version was not overly thick and it was hard to tell it is a protein drink. Read: no chalkiness or artificial protein taste. While Nesquik's Strawberry Protein Power rendition had a yogurt-like consistency that bumped it down to seventh place in our ranking, the chocolate protein version was pleasantly creamy. "Honestly, if I had tried this in a blind taste test, I probably wouldn't have even guessed it was an extra-protein product," our taste tester wrote, ultimately calling the product "the cream of the crop."
A protein boost without the protein flavor
Added protein is one of those trends that has been around for a while now, and it totally makes sense here. With a bit of extra protein, Nesquik is a delicious and nutritionally functional drink. "If I can get all those nostalgic flavors of the brand's traditional chocolate milk (and then some), plus an extra nine grams of protein, I'm all for it." our taste tester wrote. She also noted that the chocolate taste and sweetness was a little more pronounced than Nesquik's original chocolate; another plus for the drink.
In a Reddit thread about protein shakes that don't taste like protein shakes, one user agreed that Nesquik's Chocolate Protein Power tastes similar to the original stuff. "The best drinks I've had are the [N]esquik protein power milk, it tastes like their regular chocolate milk but a tiny bit thicker (not by a lot)," they wrote. Another person recommended mixing protein powder with Nesquik chocolate milk. But why go to all the effort if you can buy Nesquik's chocolate milk with the protein already incorporated?
It's fair to note, there are several brands and chocolate milk proteins to choose from. If you prefer regular chocolate milk (sans protein), for instance, a previous Tasting Table chocolate milk taste test determined that Nesquik is better than Hershey's. However, when we tried 10 chocolate milk brands, including Nesquik (regular chocolate, sans protein), Promised Land was named a superior product overall.
