Those with a sweet tooth may disagree, but for many of us there are some desserts that are just too over the top. Creamy baked cheesecakes, decadent layer cakes, and molten chocolate brownies will always have their place, but sometimes all you want is something light, fruity, and fuss-free. That's where this quick no-bake blueberry dessert comes in.

A simple mixture of ripe blueberries, Cool Whip, and condensed milk is all you really need to create a creamy treat that will satisfy your cravings without overdoing things. It may sound basic, but the ingredients play off each other so well when mixed together. The condensed milk adds a decadent, rich texture, and sweet flavor to the fluffy whipped topping, while the blueberries lend a nice tartness and provide some bite.

It's a creamy, pared back take on a dessert — just combine everything in a bowl and serve. That's it — no oven, no setting, no mess. You'll probably want to use more whipped topping than condensed milk but it depends on your preference. It's also best to add the blueberries last, and stir gently to avoid squishing them.

Making an easy blueberry fluff dessert

There are so many ways to upgrade this blueberry bowl further. Add some granola or toasted nuts for a little crunch, or incorporate some chocolate or butterscotch chips if you want it a little sweeter. A drizzle of salted caramel sauce would also be delicious, as would Nutella or chocolate sauce. Or use a simple squeeze of lemon and some zest to play off a classic lemon and blueberry cake flavor — fresh mint is also a refreshing addition.

If you're not a blueberry fan, any type of berry will work. Strawberries, raspberries, blackberries — you could even try chopped apples if you'd like — and frozen is fine. It may actually make things easier in terms of stirring and the dessert is best served ice cold. Some people like to add marshmallows to this too, and some pie filling can amp up the flavor even further. If you are looking for more indulgence, incorporate a little cream cheese or sour cream. Powdered sugar can sweeten things up too.

If you don't like whipped topping, try using fresh cream. Just be careful if you plan on making it ahead though as whipped cream tends to lose its height over time (it's best to store it in the fridge for one or two days). If using Cool Whip, or a similar product, you can freeze the finished dessert for about three months. Otherwise, it can be stored in the fridge for as many as three days.
