Film-loving foodies won't soon forget when Willy Wonka introduced the world to snozzberries — or when, after Veruca Salt inquired what snozzberries are, Wonka famously replied, "We are the music-makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams." It's an iconic and weirdly inspiring epicurean moment, and apparently Marie Callender's took a page from Wonka's playbook. To borrow a phrase from Veruca, who ever heard of a "razzleberry?"

For the unacquainted, Marie Callender's Razzleberry Fruit Pie features a combination of raspberries and blackberries. It's a whimsical moniker, and (according to fans) a flavor profile that totally works. As one foodie raved in a Reddit thread, "I don't know how they get the crust so good when it is frozen. It's magic. My favorite is the razzleberry."

Multiple customer reviews on the Marie Callender's website similarly name the Razzleberry Fruit Pie as their all-time favorite. "One of the best frozen pies out there," one writes. "I personally like the crust. It's flaky & tasty — you can't have too thin a crust in a berry pie." Others echo the sentiment, saying, "It is absolutely delicious and one of my favorite desserts." Another said, "Favorite and convenient. We purchased Razzleberry Fruit Pies for at least the past 20 years." It's no mystery why Marie Callender's is our all-time favorite frozen pie brand here at Tasting Table, proving time and time again that frozen desserts can be better (and cheaper) than homemade.

Marie Callender's Razzleberry Fruit Pie is the proverbial apple of shoppers' eyes

It's worth noting that in a previous Tasting Table taste test of Marie Callender's frozen pie flavors, we didn't give Razzleberry particularly high marks. As we mentioned in our review, "The pie filling wasn't very sweet because it was mostly berries, but we tasted a nondescript fruit flavor without any bright, tart juice you'd expect." At least the signature flaky, buttery, made-from-scratch pastry crust we've come to expect from the brand totally delivered.

According to some apparent longtime fans, the product may have changed over time and may periodically experience consistency issues. Multiple reviews posted to the Marie Callender's website take issue with the ingredients ratio, mentioning that the Razzleberry Fruit Pie carries more jelly filling than actual berries compared to the pies they remember. We're willing to consider that some quality control issues may be at play here. After all, thousands of Walmart customer reviews give Marie Callender's Razzleberry Fruit Pie an impressive 4.4 star average, which reflects a very different dining experience. Shoppers sound off, "Just as good as homemade! This is the best pie ever!" and "I have used this pie for years! It is the best multi-berry pie I've ever had! It even beats homemade farm stands'!"

Ultimately, even on an off day, Marie Callender's Razzleberry Fruit Pie remains convenient, ready-to-bake, and the price is absolutely right. A 40-ounce Marie Callender's Razzleberry Fruit Pie costs just $6.87 at Walmart. Worst case scenario, there's very little that a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream cannot rescue.
