The 7 Most Overpriced Jimmy John's Sandwiches, According To Customers
There's a good chance that, right now, you're not too far from a Jimmy John's. After all, the sandwich chain has nearly 2,800 locations in 46 states and territories across the U.S. But just because you can visit a Jimmy John's doesn't necessarily mean that you should. Many customers have complained about the chain, noting that its sandwiches are flavorless, its menu is confusing, and it's too expensive. In May 2026, we even declared it as one of five sandwich chains in the U.S. that simply aren't worth the money.
When it comes to prices, some sandwiches have racked up more complaints than others. We combed through social media to find some of the worst offenders, and you can find the results below. Before you start reading, just a warning: Some of these prices might be a bit of a jump scare to the frugal reader. In some instances, we're talking nearly $30 for a single sandwich.
Club Lulu
If you're in the mood for a classic club sandwich, you might be tempted to order Jimmy John's No. 16, The Club Lulu, which comes with turkey breast, smoked bacon, mayonnaise, lettuce, and tomato. But before you do, it's worth knowing that many Jimmy John's customers think this sandwich is significantly overpriced.
"When did the prices get so unreasonably high?" one Redditor asked alongside an image of their Jimmy John's receipt. Including taxes, they paid nearly $14 for a Club Lulu sandwich. "What the hell is going on," they added. While some responded trying to justify the price in the comments, others were equally astonished at the cost. "Yeah no kidding," said another Redditor, who recalled when a giant sandwich was priced at $18, noting it's now closer to $26.
Other customers have also complained about the high price of the Club Lulu, and many noticed that, at some locations, the price pushes $20 with potato chips and a drink. "I love Jimmy John's but ain't no normal size fast food sub worth double digits," complained another Redditor in r/jimmyjohns after paying nearly $11 for a regular Club Lulu. They added, "I can afford it but $11 for a half a sub seems wild to me."
Turkey Tom
The Turkey Tom has long enjoyed a loyal following. The No. 4 menu item, which boasts a simple mix of turkey, mayonnaise, and salad, was one of the original sandwiches on the lineup back in the 1980s, alongside The Pepe, Totally Tuna, and Vito. But recently, many fans haven't been super impressed with Turkey Tom. When our taste-tester ranked several popular Jimmy John's sandwiches in 2023, for example, they placed the sandwich near the bottom and criticized the lack of flavor and filling.
Other customers have also noticed the significant lack of filling, and for some, this makes the price a sore spot. Underneath an image of what appears to be a sad-looking Turkey Tom, one Redditor wrote in a post with more than 900 upvotes at the time of writing. "3 pieces of [meat], 3 tomatoes, and [a] pinch of lettuce. $14.00, not even a slice of cheese! #StayAway #Garbage," they said. They're not alone; some have even tried to get their money back after noting the lack of filling and high price for a Turkey Tom.
In some stores, a Giant Turkey Tom can even set you back almost $30. "This is getting stupid," wrote one Facebook user in March 2026, alongside the image of their Jimmy John's receipt for the large sandwich. "Ridiculous. I personally don't think they're that good either," another user replied.
Vito
Italian sandwich lovers have plenty of choices at Jimmy John's. There's the Spicy East Coast Italian, the Italian Night Club, and the Ultimate Italian, for example, each of which comes loaded with deli meats and cheeses. But if you want to keep it classic, you might opt for the Vito. This was the chain's original Italian-style sandwich. It was first introduced in the 1980s and loaded with salami, capocollo, provolone, salad, oil and vinegar, and oregano-basil. When it first hit the menu, the Vito was $2.75. Needless to say, that's not the case any longer.
In the 2020s, some customers have complained that they have paid around $16 with tax for a Vito sandwich. "I like that the meat is flavorless and the tomatoes taste green (not ripe). The gas station Wawa has a better Italian inspired sub," reads one Reddit post. Another Redditor revealed they paid "$33 for 2 Italian sandwiches and 2 bags of chips (didn't even get drinks)" in r/jimmyjohns.
J.J. Gargantuan
The J.J. Gargantuan sandwich isn't an OG Jimmy John's menu item, but it has been around for a pretty long time. The enormous sandwich, loaded with five different meats, cheese, and toppings, first hit the menu in the 1990s and it was a hit. It still has a big fan base today, and many people say it's their favorite menu item from the sandwich chain. But while the J.J. Gargantuan sandwich might be beloved, it's certainly not cheap.
Back in the early 2000s, you coul sample the gigantic creation for $6.75. Today, customers say they're looking at nearly $30 in some locations. If you get extra toppings, it might even cost you as much as $70. Yes, for one sandwich (albeit a very big one). Many people are shocked at the price of the J.J. Gargantuan sandwich. Some have even noticed that, while the price has gone up, the sandwich itself has seemingly shrunk in size. "Welp the gargantuan is now smaller and cost $25 ... (just the sub)," lamented one Redditor in r/jimmyjohns. "Rip my [Jimmy John's] fix."
For what it's worth, our team wasn't impressed by this sandwich either. They declared it one of the subs that you should think twice about ordering and faulted its textures and overwhelming saltiness.
Club Tuna
Americans started feasting on tuna sandwiches in the early 1900s, and by the 1980s, they were a lunchtime staple. So it's not surprising that a classic tuna salad sandwich (the Totally Tuna) made it onto the original Jimmy John's menu. It was soon followed by the Club Tuna, which is essentially the same sandwich, but with provolone cheese. Lately, though, people have been quite irked with Jimmy John's tuna sandwiches. You guessed it, but they have been particularly annoyed with how much they've had to pay for their lunchtime go-to — especially as, once again, the size seems to be shrinking.
"Got a giant tuna sub with extras. These things were packed three weeks ago and now it's gone down by like 50%," complained one customer in a Reddit post with more than 300 upvotes at the time of writing. "Gotten from the same place at the same price. It's a sad day." They're not alone in their annoyance. Another customer added in r/jimmyjohns: "Tuna club 16" with [a] cookie and [a] large drink is $33 and change with a $3 tip. Smh."
Slim 1
Jimmy John's Plain Slim sandwiches are for the diners who prefer to keep things simple. Take Slim 1, for example. It's just a basic combination of provolone and ham. No salad, no sauce; just classic ham and cheese. If you were hoping that the simple nature of the Slim 1 would protect it from the "overpriced" accusations, unfortunately, that's not the case.
"The other day I bought a slim 1 and a slim 4 with cheese. $17.50," reads one Reddit post in r/jimmyjohns. Another user replied, "I remember when subs were $4.95, clubs were $5.95, slims were $3ish. That was like less than 10 [years] ago I think." For some, the price of the Slim 1 is enough to put them off going to Jimmy John's altogether. "I feel ripped off and won't be going back," one customer claimed after paying $12 for a Slim 1 with potato chips and a drink.
Jimmy Cubano
In 2019, Jimmy John's decided it was going to take a stab at a classic Cuban sandwich, and the Jimmy's Cubano, with bacon, ham, provolone, pickles, mayonnaise, and yellow mustard, was born. But, to put it mildly, not everyone is a fan of the No. 13 menu item. In fact, many see it as a major flop. For some, the issue is that the sandwich is simply not very, well, Cuban. For others? The problem is the price, of course.
"That looks like a leftovers sandwich to me," wrote one Redditor under a post of an image of the inside of the sandwich. "[Not going to lie] I'd eat that but I wouldn't pay 9 friggin dollars for it, more like 1-2 dollars." Another added, "I [don't] have respect for [Jimmy John's] 12 bucks for a sub par sub meal at least." If you've got a craving, it's probably better to make a Cuban sandwich from scratch. It's likely cheaper, too.
Methodology
For most Americans, life isn't cheap right now; groceries, healthcare, and housing costs are all going up. Unfortunately, as we've firmly established in this list, the prices of sandwiches are, too.
While some people don't mind spending more on lunch if it's good quality, others resent having to pay through the nose for a sub. If you're in the latter camp, we get it. That's why we scanned through social media threads, on Reddit and Facebook, looking for a general consensus on which Jimmy John's sandwiches are overpriced and, ultimately, not worth the spend. We pulled the sandwiches that got the biggest response to make this list.
If you don't agree (maybe you're a diehard for the J.J. Gargantuan or a Turkey Tom loyalist), that's okay, too. At the end of the day, sandwiches are subjective, and everyone is free to spend their hard-earned cash on whatever they like.
