If we're talking snacks from one of America's most iconic treat-makers, we can't go past the Oatmeal Creme Pies, which we described as our hands-down favorite Little Debbie snacks. But some may argue that the brand's Fudge Brownies with English Walnuts, which debuted in 1969, deserve the top ranking. Or deserved, past tense. Because this fudgy, not-too-sweet fan fave was discontinued in 2022, with zero fanfare or explanation. And the people are not having it.

In the fall of 2025, a petition was posted on Change.org to try to encourage parent company McKee Foods to bring back the individually-wrapped walnut-flecked rectangles. "These weren't just brownies. They were lunchbox staples, after-school rituals, and childhood memories for thousands of us," the petition reads. As of the time of writing, there were nearly 13,000 signatures supporting the cause. Is there hope for a return? It's not the news fans want to hear: Most likely not.

Tasting Table reached out to the company to get some clarification. Mike Gloekler, the PR manager from McKee, confirmed the worst: "Unfortunately, it is unlikely that the English walnut variety will return."

Why Little Debbie Fudge Brownies with English Walnuts were discontinued

According to Mike Gloekler at McKee Foods, there were two main reasons that Little Debbie's Fudge Brownies with English Walnuts were discontinued. The first has to do with cleaning the equipment that's used to make the brownie. "Because walnuts are an allergen and were produced on a shared line with non-nut varieties, each run required an extensive, multi-hour deep-cleaning process," Gloekler tells us. That cut into the bottom line.

Gloekler cites a decline in demand as the second reason. Despite some fans wanting these discontinued Little Debbie snacks to make a comeback, if it isn't a best-seller, it's not worth it to the company. "We ultimately needed to reallocate production line time to meet higher-demand products," Gloekler explains.

Maybe it's time for folks to move on from their mourning and find a new favorite. Yes, we're talking about Katharine Hepburn's brownie recipe, which is a fudgy rendition of the classic, but with the addition of walnuts. Best of all? Because it's homemade, it can never be discontinued.
