Order In-N-Out Like Dolly Parton For A Classic Fan-Favorite Packed With Flavor

While Dolly Parton's favorite fast food burger was the Whopper, she also liked ordering an In-N-Out burger off its "not-so-secret" menu. In 2011, Parton told interviewer Ryan Fox a funny story about how much she loves her burger Animal Style — and how she convinced her bashful husband, who thought it was a risqué term, to order it that way, too.

To order like Parton, simply ask for any burger made Animal Style. Since it's In-N-Out's most iconic hamburger style and officially recognized on the menu, the crew behind the counter will know exactly what you mean: a burger with lettuce, tomato, extra spread, pickles, grilled onions, and a mustard-cooked beef patty.

It's easy to see why the order has developed such a cult following, with celebrities among its loyal fans. The mustard-cooked patty adds a slightly sweet char, while the toppings and extra spread come together for a flavorful bite. If you haven't already tried a burger Animal Style, it's worth giving the celebrity-approved order a shot, but just be warned that all those toppings and extra spread can make for a pretty soggy mess.

Aside from burgers, you can even order fries Animal Style. But the story of the popular burger style dates back decades.  This iconic In-N-Out hamburger style was inspired by customer requests, back in 1961. It all started when a group of customers at the chain quickly became known for causing a ruckus at the original In-N-Out location, playing loud music and honking their car horns in the parking lot. They also had a habit of requesting burgers with off-menu additions, which would eventually inspire one of the chain's most famous orders. Eventually, staff nicknamed the rowdy group "animals" and began referring to their unusual burger order as Animal Style. The name stuck, and decades later, it's one of In-N-Out's most recognizable ways to order a burger.

For Parton, her burger order at In-N-Out just made sense. The Queen of Country was also known for her hospitality, cookbooks, and her cooking. One of Parton's favorite meals to prepare for guests was pure southern comfort: roast pork. And Animal Style burgers are cut from that same comfy cloth: crowd-pleasing, unpretentious, and warm, much like Parton herself
