These 3 Little Debbie Snacks Are The Brand's Best-Sellers
Of all the snacks that line store shelves, few are as nostalgic as a classic Little Debbie snack cake. With a lineup of dozens of sweet treats, Little Debbie has fed generations — from youngsters enjoying an after-school snack to adults satisfying late-night cravings. Among the many cakes, cookies, and other treats Little Debbie offers, Oatmeal Creme Pies, Nutty Buddy bars, and Swiss Rolls are in a class all their own.
According to McKee Foods, which owns Little Debbie, those three snacks are the brand's top-sellers, accounting for more than 200 million cartons in annual sales. This speaks not only to the popularity of all three snacks, but it also speaks to the brand's longevity. Long before Little Debbie became a well-known brand, Oatmeal Creme Pies were among the first snacks offered by O.D. McKee in 1935. Nutty Buddy bars appeared in 1959 and Swiss Rolls in 1962.
We taste-tested more than a dozen Little Debbie snacks, and we're big fans of the classics, too. Oatmeal Creme Pies topped our list, followed by Nutty Buddy bars at number five and Swiss Rolls at number seven. We loved the chewy, firm feel of our top choice and its perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors. We deemed the Nutty Buddy a sweet, chocolatey, peanut buttery combination that felt like eating the perfect mix of a Kit-Kat and a peanut butter cup. The Swiss Rolls follow closely thanks to their devil's food cake texture and because the chocolate and the creme pair so well together.
A delicious inspiration for other snacks
Oatmeal Creme Pies, Nutty Buddy bars, and Swiss Rolls are already among Little Debbie's most beloved snacks, but their popularity goes even further. These three classics have become such staples of the Little Debbie lineup that they've inspired other snacks based on their signature flavors. McKee now offers several kinds of cake roll treats, Nutty Buddy-inspired cakes, and creme pies, along with nearly a dozen different creme pie treats in addition to the original. They've also inspired several Little Debbie ice cream flavors and cereals.
These snacks have been around for decades, having helped build Little Debbie's reputation for tasty treats, and their staying power is a testament to their quality. It doesn't matter if you're 7, 17, or 70, the familiar combination of oatmeal and creme, chocolate and creme, or peanut butter and chocolate hits the sweet spot — literally. It's a delicious part of childhood or a scrumptious bit of nostalgia that reminds of simpler times.
