Cereal has been a staple American breakfast for well over a century. There's something undeniably satisfying about munching on something sweet and crunchy first thing in the morning, especially when there's great nutrition to back it up. Cheerios has repeatedly been named a top-trusted food brand in the U.S., and one of its latest creations is a single-serve, high-protein cereal that you can take on the go — and it's only $1.
The protein cereal comes in two flavors: Strawberry Cheerios Protein and Cinnamon Cheerios Protein. Both flavors are gluten-free and packed with eight grams of protein per serving. They're sold in convenient single-serve cups, so all you have to do is add your milk of choice and breakfast is ready. They're small enough to easily take with you on the go, and because they're shelf-stable, you can even keep a few of them stocked in your car for easy access when you need one.
"It taste[s] so good!! Can't even tell it's protein. Taste[s] like regular Cheerios if not better lol. Great flavor. Will get more!!" wrote one shopper on the Walmart product page. Some have pointed out that the cereals are delicious enough to eat as a snack all on their own, without any milk. "The grandkids eat it in a bowl without milk as an after school snack," reported another Walmart reviewer.
The Cheerios Protein cups make for an affordable and nutritious breakfast
Something that Cheerios does really well with its $1 cereal cups is offer balanced nutrition at an affordable price. Along with the eight grams of protein, both the Strawberry and the Cinnamon cups come with 12 and 13 grams of whole grains, respectively, as well as two grams of dietary fiber. They are also a source of iron, potassium, vitamin A, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, vitamin C, and vitamin D. For the first meal of the day, that's a pretty solid nutritional profile.
While Cheerios cereal comes in many flavors, Strawberry and Cinnamon remain the only two flavors available in the single-serve, protein-forward cups as of September 2026. If you want them in a bigger package, the brand does sell a full-sized version of both. That said, if protein isn't your main breakfast goal or you simply want to switch up the flavors, you can also find the cereal cups for Confetti Cheerios, Honey Nut Cheerios, and the classic Cheerios Breakfast Cereal.
Depending on the milk you pair them with, all of the cups can get an extra boost of protein. Regular whole milk already comes with eight grams of protein per cup, but you can also consider ultra-filtered milk, which has 13 grams of protein per serving. If you're new to the variety, we tried six different brands of ultra-filtered milk and ranked them worst to best.
