Make Grilled Cheese Disney World-Style For Jaw-Dropping Gooeyness
While it's hard to improve a classic like grilled cheese, if anyone can do it, Disney can. These days, Disney World is known for its food almost as much as its rides, and the Grilled Three-Cheese Sandwich at Woody's Lunch Box is no exception. The quick-service spot in Toy Story Land serves comfort foods like BBQ brisket and chili cheese tater tots, known as "totchos," but it's the Grilled Three-Cheese Sandwich that really has us drooling.
You can get the Grilled Three-Cheese Sandwich for $10.99 as an entrée or as part of a kids' meal for $7.49. It's made with provolone, cheddar, and American cheese on sourdough bread. For a truly epic experience, get it with a cup of tomato-basil soup on the side. It's the perfect lunch after a morning spent waiting in the Slinky Dog Dash line.
But you don't have to travel to Florida to enjoy this creation. To celebrate National Grilled Cheese Day, Disney Parks has shared the recipe for its Grilled Three-Cheese Sandwich on its blog, and it's a cinch to make. All you'll need is cheddar, provolone, and American cheese slices, mayonnaise, minced garlic, coarse salt, cream cheese, heavy cream, shredded cheddar, and your favorite bread.
How to recreate Disney World's grilled cheese sandwich at home
To make this restaurant-quality grilled cheese, combine the minced garlic, mayo, and salt, then spread the mixture on the outside of your bread. Make the cream cheese spread by blending the cream cheese, heavy cream, shredded cheddar cheese, and a bit of coarse salt. For a super-smooth consistency, use a food processor or blender, or mix it by hand for a chunkier texture. Layer the provolone, cheddar, and American slices on the bread, then top with the cream cheese spread.
Then grill both sides until golden brown. You can melt butter in the pan before adding the sandwich, but thanks to the mayo, you don't need to. Mayonnaise is a superior griddling trick for grilled cheese, with experts saying it gives the bread more even browning than butter.
Other little-known grilled cheese hacks include using a panini press or toasting the bread before putting it in the pan. Both tricks can help the sandwich cook faster while preventing soggy bread. For easier dipping, try cutting your grilled cheese into lengthwise strips to dunk into tomato soup, or slice it into crouton-sized pieces and sprinkle them on top. And if you don't have tomato soup on hand, reach for a jar of marinara sauce instead.
