Texas Roadhouse may be a steakhouse chain with a long list of delicious meat cuts and decadent sides to go with them, but it also has a respectable salad menu. So, if you're looking for a lighter meal or just want a plate of salad in a multicourse steakhouse dinner, we sampled every Texas Roadhouse salad to find the best one to order. We ranked the salads according to the intrigue of flavors, variety and quality of ingredients, and textural contrast. And while the traditional House and Caesar were fine on their own, they simple didn't compare to our number one pick: the Steakhouse Filet Salad.

Since Texas Roadhouse specializes in steak, it should come has no surprise that a salad covered in juicy slices of decadent, buttery filet is the best option on the menu. And it more than delivered on taste, texture, and quality. Before we even dug in, the presentation of the salad was beautiful, with thick slices of filet running down the middle, surrounded by greens, colorful diced veggies, blue cheese crumbles, and croutons. The filet was melt-in-your mouth tender, and its umami richness was beautifully complemented by the funky, creamy blue cheese. The bed of greens and veggies come dressed in a tangy and zesty Italian dressing which helps cut through the richness of the meat while also lending a brightness to the fresh vegetables. The crunch of the veggies and croutons, creamy blue cheese crumbles, and tender chew of the steak was a symphony of textural contrasts that was as enjoyable as its flavor profile.

Customer reviews for Texas Roadhouse's Steakhouse Filet Salad

Customers on Yelp and Facebook have plenty of great things to say about the Steakhouse Filet Salad. One Yelp review complimented every element of the salad, starting with the filet on top, which it stated was tender and well-cooked. The review went on to praise the fresh crisp greens and plentiful blue cheese crumbles. "Not the cheapest salad I have ever had ($13.99), but you do get a ton of filet, so it was definitely worth the cost. One of the better salads I have had in the past year or so!," the review stated. Facebook reviews similarly praise the tenderness of the meat and how well Texas Roadhouse cooks it to their specification of doneness. "Only meal I ever order! Love the Italian/Blue Cheese dressings," one Facebook user wrote.

Considering the filet mignon is one of our favorite cuts of steak to order at Texas Roadhouse, the Steakhouse Filet salad is a solid choice. It's akin to ordering a filet mignon with a side salad. The blue cheese crumbles drizzled in Italian dressing could almost pass for a steakhouse blue cheese sauce. But, you can also customize your salad by ordering blue cheese dressing, instead. If you'd rather indulge in a full steak dinner instead of a meaty salad, you could still go for the House salad, as it's a basic side dish that Texas roadhouse customers swear by. But know that it pales in comparison to the Steakhouse Filet Salad.
