The Fast Food Chain With The Best Breakfast Potatoes
There are many fast-food hash browns in which to pair your biscuit or burrito loaded with eggs and bacon — but which one reigns supreme? Potatoes, specifically during breakfast hours, are one of my favorite things to order, so I have a strong opinion on which fast-food chain does it best. The iconic hash brown from McDonald's is a classic, and the hash brown from Taco Bell is unexpectedly delicious, but none of them do it as well as Bojangles. The only bad thing about Bojangles' breakfast potatoes, coined Bo-Tato Rounds, is that they are hard to get where I live in New York City, seeing as there is only one Bojangles spot in the entire city.
There are a few reasons why I make sure to get a couple of Bo-Tato rounds when I'm near a Bojangles. For starters, Bo-Tato Rounds are crunchy on the inside, but soft and almost creamy on the inside. In addition to the textural contrast, these hash browns are larger than many other fast-food restaurants' hash browns, which our taster tried and ranked, and there seems to be more potato inside. Then there's the flavor, which includes more than just salt. Bo-Tato Rounds also contain onion, which adds additional flavor and sets them even further apart from other chains.

The deep-fried Bo-Tato Rounds come in three sizes: regular, medium, and family, which start at $4.09 at the Brooklyn, New York location. Perhaps best of all, these hash browns are available all day at participating locations, along with some of the chain's other breakfast options, in case you have a craving later in the day. Personally, I like to dip my hash browns in Bo's Special Sauce, which is equal parts tangy and sweet and seasoned with various herbs and spices.
If you're like me and don't live near a Bojangles', I have a couple of back-up options. First, out of the slew of McDonald's breakfast items, its hash brown is nostalgic and delicious. It's perfectly crispy on the outside and on the rare occasion I eat McDonald's for breakfast, I always order two hash browns with a little bit of ketchup. My last suggestion for the best fast-food breakfast potato might be the most unexpected: Taco Bell. It's almost a better version of McDonald's hash brown; the Taco Bell ones I've ordered have always come out crispier. Granted, nothing beats the diner-style home fries you can make yourself.
