No Pizza Crust, No Problem: Grab A Pack Of Hawaiian Rolls And Do This
When you're craving homemade pizza but you don't have the ingredients to make dough, you can improvise. In fact, there are plenty of variations of pizza crust you likely already have in your fridge or pantry: toast, bagels, or even flatbread made from tortillas. But what if you're craving a flavorful pizza crust alternative that's a little more portable, fun sized, and slightly sweet? Look no further than that package of sweet Hawaiian rolls. Turns out, they make for fantastic pizza sliders.
To make pizza sliders, start by removing the entire sheet of rolls from the package. Do not break them apart — instead, slice all of them in half horizontally. You'll end up with two large sheets of rolls, the perfect foundation for layering your pizza ingredients. On the bottom half, spread the sauce, cheese, pepperoni, and any other classic toppings your heart desires. Then, place the top layer of rolls, and brush a mixture of melted butter, garlic and herbs, and parmesan cheese on top. This will make the sliders crispy and more flavorful, almost like garlic knots.
Once assembled, transfer the entire thing to a greased baking sheet or pan, cover in aluminum foil, and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 15 minutes or until the cheese has fully melted. Then, when you're ready to eat, cut or break them apart as normal, and voila! You have cheesy, savory, and delicious pizza sliders that are perfect for a weeknight dinner.
How to upgrade this meal even more
Pizza sliders alone sound absolutely mouthwatering. They're savory, cheesy, rich, and have just the right amount of sweetness from the Hawaiian rolls. But we have a few suggestions to make this meal even more delicious. For one, instead of just adding pepperoni, add different meats or veggies, depending on your preference. Sausage crumbles, mushrooms, black olives, green peppers, salami — the possibilities are endless! You could also change up the pizza sauce: spread Buffalo or barbecue sauce with shredded chicken to make barbecue-style sliders, or add pesto for a Margherita twist.
Then there are the side dishes. We think our Greek-style seven layer salad recipe, complete with kalamata olives, red onion, and feta cheese, would taste fantastic with this meal. But if you're craving bar food, eat these sliders with chicken wings! One of our wing recipes for the ultimate Super Bowl spread should do the trick. Sure, they're typically reserved for football watch parties, but they'll do just as well on a random weeknight or weekend hang.
