Sometimes, if you want to expand the McDonald's menu, you have to take matters into your own hands. To experience something close to Germany's Double Beef Classic, you'll can make a few tweaks to a normal Big Mac, starting by removing the center bun and holding the Mac sauce.

The Double Beef Classic features two beef patties, lettuce, onions, pickles and two sauces. One is a spicy honey mustard, and the other is Big Tasty sauce, which has a smoky flavor, and is made with oil, egg yolks, and sour cream to create a creamy, mayo-type sauce. You could try to approximate the sauce by mixing McDonald's Creamy Ranch with a small amount of Tangy Barbecue Sauce since barbecue sauce also has a smoky flavor. It wouldn't be an exact dupe of Big Tasty sauce, but it might be the closest you can get at an American McDonald's.

For the next sauce, you need Honey Mustard (that's also an essential component if you want to order a McCrispy German-style). American honey mustard appears to be sweeter than the German version, so mixing in a little regular yellow mustard could improve the sharpness. Try ordering a side of honey mustard and mixing in the yellow mustard to taste until you get it balanced the way you like.

The American Double Beef Classic

We previously covered how to order a more filling chicken sandwich at McDonald's by doing it German-style, but this burger hack is a little more involved. Even though the sweetness of the Mac Sauce is gone, the honey mustard provides a sugary element that balances the savory taste of the beef. Without the middle bun you'll also experience a meatier bite. Both meat patties are together in the Double Beef Classic with only the dehydrated, diced onions between them. That means the bulk of this burger is very savory, while the combination of sauces on the top and bottom buns adds a sweet, smoky dimension. The lettuce and pickles on top add freshness and a crunchy texture. You can always upgrade further with some of these burger ordering tips, too.

Since this hack requires a few steps, you may be better off doing the bulk of the work yourself rather than explaining how you want it made when you order. The key things to ask for are a Big Mac with no center bun and no Mac Sauce. From there you should be able to manage the sauce customizations on your own. Ask for the sauces you need on the side and mix them yourself. That will let you play with the amount of yellow mustard or Tangy Barbecue Sauce you add, tweaking the taste of your improvised Big Tasty Sauce and Honey Mustard to your own liking.
