We love potatoes around here. They're versatile, delicious, and are featured in some of our favorite snacks (looking at you, potato chips). Truly, there's little better than tucking into a crispy bag of fries when you're craving something salty. But if you're hoping for a lighter, portable snack, look no further than Aldi, a popular German-born grocery store that's made its way to the U.S. The grocery store sells Deutsche Kuche Potato Sticks, one of the 15 must-have Aldi finds hitting the shelves in September 2026.

Aldi's German potato sticks are thin and light, perfectly crispy, and a great alternative to thick-cut potato chips or fries. You'll find two flavors available at the store: Hash Brown Style and Herbs of the Alps Style. The former appears to be a classic salt flavor, while Facebook reviewers speculate Herb of the Alps is similar to sour-cream-and-onion flavor with a bit of garlic. And according to the product bags, these crunchy snacks are imported from Germany — you can't get more authentic than that!

Based on online reviews, these potato sticks were last available at Aldi in April. But they're slated to return as one of 11 must-try finds for Aldi's German Week 2026, which runs from September 16 to 23. Currently, Aldi's website says both flavors are "out of stock," but that could be because they haven't been rereleased yet. Once they return both in person and online, they'll be available for $1.79 a bag.

What Aldi fans think of this snack

Many Aldi customers eagerly await the return of this salty, potatoey snack. "These NEED to be permanent. I get so excited when they appear twice a year!" one Redditor said on r/aldi. Another commented on the same thread, "They taste like freeze dried diner hashbrowns," to which someone replied, "Ohh, yeah I'd have a hard timing stopping myself from eating all of them, then."

In a separate r/aldi thread about the Herbs of the Alps Style flavor, another Redditor said, "I like to dip these in the fried dill pickle stuff. I also buy multiple bags and keep one unopened in the car. They are good traffic snacks."

So, if you're planning to grab a bag of Deutsche Kuche Potato Sticks this month, we suggest you try them on their own first. Then, enjoy them with your favorite dip — we like Aldi's Park Street Deli Spinach Artichoke Dip and Deli Dill Veggie Dip — or sprinkle them on top of salads and soups. You could even stuff them in sandwiches for extra crunch.
