Texas Double Whopper Vs Rodeo Double Cheeseburger: What's The Actual Difference?

Even if you're a regular at a particular fast food franchise and walk into the restaurant keen to try new things each time, it's rare to become intimately familiar with every item on the menu. Because of this, it would be understandable for Burger King customers to have some difficulty distinguishing between two superficially similar types of double cheeseburger. Worry not, however, as the actual difference between Burger King's Texas Double Whopper and Rodeo Double Cheeseburger is easy to explain.

The two burgers do have elements in common — both are comprised of two flame grilled-beef patties served on a toasted sesame seed bun with American cheese. What really sets these burgers apart are the toppings. While it may not have made our list of the 12 wildest Burger King Whoppers of all time, the Texas Double Whopper doesn't skimp on the accompaniments, being laden with American cheese, bacon, tomatoes, lettuce, white onion, pickles, jalapeños, mayonnaise, and yellow mustard. By contrast, the Rodeo Double Cheeseburger's toppings are fewer in number but arguably more distinctive; it has crispy onion rings and sweet, smoky BBQ sauce, with two slices of American cheese.

Toppings aren't the only thing that differentiates these two burgers

Beyond their toppings, there are a few other differences between these sandwiches. While the Rodeo Double Cheeseburger features two patties that collectively weigh in at a ¼ pound, each of the patties in a Texas Double Whopper weighs a ¼ pound, giving you double the amount of meat. In caloric terms, the Texas Double Whopper on its own will clock in at 1,120 calories, while the Rodeo Double Cheeseburger stands at a more modest 530 calories.

The Texas Double Whopper was first introduced in 2006 but was only available in certain markets — mainly, as one might guess, in Texas — until it was rolled out at participating locations nationwide in 2021. The Rodeo Double Cheeseburger is a spin on Burger King's Rodeo Burger, which also came with BBQ sauce, cheese, and onion rings, and was launched in 1998 as a promotion for the Joe Dante movie "Small Soldiers"  (though the advertising campaign never did adequately explain how a talking plastic toy was supposed to eat a burger). It was eventually discontinued until it returned in 2013 as part of the BK Value Menu, though today it can only be found in select markets.

The Texas Double Whopper is also distinguished by the fact it came out on top in our worst-to-best ranking of Burger King burgers. The balance between the mayo's richness, the mustard's acidity and the jalapeños' heat was what made it stand out. These elements, plus the Texas-style toppings, give it a dimension no other menu item has, making the Texas Double Whopper Burger King's best burger by far.
