Who Makes Aldi's Sundae Shoppe Ice Cream?

Aldi is known for having a strong lineup of private-label products that can easily rival name-brand competitors. Its dessert brands are particularly beloved among customers, including the Sundae Shoppe ice creams. A little industry secret, however, is that sometimes, there are popular brands hiding behind Aldi products. The only problem is that it can be hard to pin down exactly which brand Aldi is partnering up with for what. That's the story of Sundae Shoppe, too.

While it isn't known for sure who makes Aldi's Sundae Shoppe ice cream as of 2026, over the years, it's certainly left some crumbs. In 2018, the then-manufacturer was revealed through a wide recall. Aldi voluntarily recalled three flavors of ice cream bars after being informed by its manufacturer, Fieldbrook Foods Corporation, that there was a possible contamination with listeria. The recall only applied to those three specific flavors, not the entire Sundae Shoppe lineup. 

While no illnesses were reported due to the Sundae Shoppe recall, the public did get a first glimpse into who makes Aldi's ice cream. At the time, Fieldbrook Foods Corporation was manufacturing private brand ice cream bars for many big retailers, including Meijer, Kroger, and Dollar Tree; all were included in the recall.

It's not certain whether or not Aldi moved its ice cream operation to a new manufacturer at any point since the Sundae Shoppe recall of 2018 — but if it hasn't, the frozen desserts might now be under Ferrero: the beloved Italian chocolate brand that's an American grocery store staple. In 2019, Fieldbrook Foods was acquired by Wells Enterprises, one of the largest ice cream manufacturers in America that owns popular brands like Halo Top and Blue Bunny. Then, in 2022, the Ferrero Group announced that it'd acquire Wells Enterprises. 

Following this trail of corporate chess, you could presume Ferrero makes Aldi's Sundae Shoppe ice cream. But even if that's so, it likely doesn't make the entire flavor lineup, because there is at least one confirmed exception. In 2025, the company Mochidoki recalled over 40,000 cartons of ice cream in one of the biggest ice cream recalls in U.S. history. The recall happened due to undisclosed allergens on the package, and it only affected one flavor: the Sundae Shoppe Cookies and Cream Mochi Ice Cream. Yup, the one you can only get at Aldi. 

Now, Mochidoki appears to exclusively specialize in mochi ice cream, so it's possible that Aldi only partnered with the company for this Japanese treat. For now, one can't confidently say exactly what brand is behind the rest of the Sundae Shoppe lineup — at least not until the next recall throws another frozen crumb.
