2012 Dirty & Rowdy Family Wines Yountville Semillon, $30

"Hardy Wallace ('Dirty') and Matt Richardson ('Rowdy') are a couple of old pals who met in my hometown of Atlanta and birthed a dream of learning to make good wines in unconventional ways. This one is, partly fermented in a concrete egg—literally, an egg-shaped concrete fermentation vat—and they recommend decanting it and serving it at cellar temperature, like a red. The wine is also partially skin-fermented, just like a Friulian orange wine, but the vibe is a lot more subtle, more 'goofball.'"
