Summer in the city is one of New York's best-kept secrets. While everyone else is getting out, heading east to the Hamptons or wherever else the beach beckons, staying put can be just as much fun.

Here are some of the best spots to take advantage of all the great outdoor dining NYC has to offer.

La Sirena: Mario Batali's newest restaurant just opened up its patio, and it's a stunner. For dinner, feast on coastal Italian dishes like bucatini with spicy octopus and grilled swordfish. At brunch, don't miss the mascarpone pancakes—they're something special.

② Barbuto: Whether you're feasting on the renowned wood-oven roast chicken or superb pasta dishes, Jonathan Waxman's West Village staple is the place to be when the weather warms and the restaurant's garage doors open for some of the city's best sidewalk dining.

Cookshop: This bustling, seasonally driven restaurant is conveniently located by the High Line, so you can walk off all the simple but consistently excellent dishes chef Marc Meyer has been putting out for years.

Wildair: Chefs Jeremiah Stone and Fabian von Hauske have been churning out some of the city's most impressive dishes at this tiny, casual resto since it opened last year. Grab a glass of natural wine and be prepared to plan your return date as soon as you realize you want to order everything on the menu.

⑤ Sessanta: The beautiful patio at this Soho hot spot keeps the place fresh all year round. It's hard to go wrong, but don't miss the white anchovy crostini, burrata or busiate with Spanish octopus.

⑥ Hudson Clearwater: Though it's been around for a few years, this spot still feels like a hidden gem—in no small part because it's somewhat of a speakeasy. When the elegant garden is open, it feels all the more special.
