Gather the ingredients to make sweet and spicy grilled shrimp

Are you ready to get this cooking party started? If so, start by making a list of ingredients that you will need to throw the recipe together. For the sauce, you will need a little bit of chili garlic sauce and some honey. Of course, the primary source of protein in this recipe is the peeled and deveined shrimp, so be sure to have some of those. In terms of more basic ingredients, throw some salt and pepper in your cart. It's always a good idea to check to see if you have any at home before you buy. Last but not least, you will need some fresh cilantro for garnish and lime wedges for serving.

Preheat the grill and mix the sauce

Shrimp cooks pretty quickly, so you will only need to keep it on for about two to three minutes per side. "To check if the shrimp are done, the best way is to use a thermometer and check to see if the shrimp are cooked to 120 F," MacLean explains. "If no thermometer is available, making sure that the shrimp are completely opaque, pink, and tightly curled are the best indicators of doneness."

Remove the shrimp from the grill and serve

After you finish cooking the shrimp, remove them from the grill. Then, use a brush to add the reserved marinade to the shrimp. This adds even more flavor and another great coat of sauce. Garnish with fresh cilantro if you wish, and serve with lime wedges. "These shrimp make a great main protein for a meal and would go great with some stir-fried veggies and steamed rice," MacLean says. "They are also great as an appetizer or snack served during get-togethers with family and friends. They cook up quickly and can be passed around a crowd easily." We absolutely love these ideas!

Ingredients

  • ⅓ cup honey
  • 1 pound medium shrimp, peeled and deveined

Directions
  1. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the chili garlic sauce, honey, salt, and pepper. Reserve about ¼ of the mixture to brush onto the shrimp after cooking. Add the shrimp to the remaining marinade and toss to coat evenly.
