Burger King's Meatiest Breakfast Sandwich Is Also Its Best Croissan'wich

The croissant itself will be forever associated with France, but the croissant breakfast sandwich is a distinctly American invention — and when it's done well, we are all the better for it. One such example dazzled us, and so we felt the need to spread the word. Recently, Tasting Table set out to determine whether McDonald's or Burger King makes the better breakfast sandwich. While assessing this battle royal, our critic was impressed by Burger King's Fully Loaded Croissan'wich, which is easily BK's meatiest breakfast sandwich offering.

This sandwich is the obvious choice for any true carnivores out there, going one further than McDonald's offer of double meat and instead coming with three. In a symphony of appetizing protein, the Loaded Croissan'wich includes Black Forest ham, bacon, and a breakfast sausage patty, along with egg and melted American cheese. Despite initially being concerned this combination might be too overwhelming in terms of ingredient ratio, sodium levels, or competing flavors, our critic's fears soon evaporated.

It turned out that the saltiness of the ham and bacon was rewardingly offset by the milder breakfast sausage. The pairing of these three distinctive yet complementary meats also meant that each bite held a mixture of pleasing textural contrasts. Contrary to what one might assume, neither the egg nor the cheese were overshadowed by this exquisitely meaty trio. Our taste tester was left thoroughly convinced by this maximalist sandwich, saying: "This was actually the best Croissan'wich I tried."

While McDonald's came out on top, Burger King's Croissan'wiches have devoted fans

Despite this, McDonald's ultimately ruled with the best breakfast offerings by comparison. However, when it came to Burger King items specifically, the Loaded Croissan'wich emerged as the most impressive in our ranking. On social media, there is vigorous debate over how well BK's Croissan'wiches compare to breakfast sandwiches from rival franchises, such as Arby's and Tim Horton's.

While opinions vary on which meat options go best in this sandwich, the basic concept itself has firm devotees. "The Burger King Croissan'wich might be the best current fast food breakfast item out there," one commenter on Reddit noted. "If you've never had breakfast at BK before, try the Croissan'wich and you hopefully won't be disappointed."

If the Croissan'wich, loaded or otherwise, somehow does not win you over, there is a Burger King breakfast burger you can try instead. Alternatively, if you can't imagine starting your day without a flaky, buttery, well-filled pastry but prefer to make your own rather than queuing up at your local fast food joint, never fear. You can always give our recipe for a deluxe egg salad croissant sandwich a try, which works equally well for a hearty breakfast, or a satisfying brunch.
