Burger King Does One Thing Better Than Its Rivals (And Customers Are Reaping The Rewards)
Between reclaiming the No. 2 spot from Wendy's in America's fast food burger wars and its parent company, Restaurant Brands International, registering a $2.5 billion sales quarter (its highest since 2023), Burger King has had a whoppingly good 2026. And a large part of this is because it has been doing one thing better than its rivals — listening to customers.
The fact that it introduced its Have It Your Way motto in the 1970s shows Burger King has historically valued guest input. Over the last couple of years, it has used feedback from its patrons to drive business decisions, and the chain has amped up these efforts in 2026 with three high-profile initiatives. In February, Burger King president Tom Curtis gave out his phone number for customers to call or leave messages with feedback. Based on these notes, Burger King made several changes, including revamping the Whopper for the first time in a decade. It now comes in a new bun, has freshly cut vegetables, upgraded mayo, and is served in a box so it doesn't get squished. It's by far one of the best fast food burgers of 2026.
In July, Burger King introduced two follow-up initiatives: Changing the restaurant manager's role to that of a Your Way Champion, entrusted with overseeing guest experience, and offering a Whopper Guarantee, where guests who were unhappy with their Whopper got a replacement on the spot and a free Whopper on their next visit.
Customers pleased with the return of the king
These initiatives come on the back of many others over the last couple of years, like the Million Dollar Whopper contest that rewarded customer creativity, and Whopper by You, which puts the best guest creations on the menu. Not only have these contributed to making the Whopper one of the most customized fast food burgers, but they've also put the chain back on an upward trajectory. It's not just Burger King that is killing it. Customers are reaping the rewards too.
Over the last few months, Reddit has been full of threads confirming the return of the king. "Back in March 2026, I tried the revamped Burger King Whopper, and it reminded me of one of those Rom-Coms where the girl with glasses gets a makeover and is suddenly hot," one customer wrote on Reddit. "Fast forward to this past Whopper Wednesday, I ordered a Whopper, [added] jalapeños, cut in half, plus an order of fries. Total, under $8! Affordable, amazing service, and freaking delicious."
Another said it was evident the brand had upped its game. "I've eaten a lot of BK but never 'loved it. The [difference] of 2026 BK is stark. Most of the time it looks exactly like the picture," they posted. "I think in addition to the general quality increase, the paper wrapping AND tight box (usually places do one or the other) keeps the burger tight and well-assembled."
