Wisconsin-based fast food chain Culver's might be best known for its delicious Butter Burgers, but they do make some mean sandwiches too. If you're trying to pick between two of its classics, the Grilled Reuben Melt and the Beef Pot Roast, based on which one has more protein and fiber, there's a straightforward answer. The Culver's sandwich you should be sinking your teeth into for a protein and fiber fix is the Grilled Reuben Melt.

The Grilled Reuben Melt, which features slow-cooked lean corned beef served on buttered and toasted rye bread, contains 37 grams of protein and 4 grams of fiber. In comparison, the Beef Pot Roast, which has premium, slow-braised chuck roast in the signature Culver's bun, delivers 31 grams of protein and just 1 gram of dietary fiber. So if it's just about protein and fiber, the choice is pretty clear-cut: Go for the Reuben, the Culver's sandwich that  remains a huge fan favorite.

However, there are a few more factors you might want to consider. While the Reuben has 6 grams more protein and 3 grams more fiber than the pot roast sandwich, it also contains 660 calories versus the Reuben's 410 calories. The Grilled Reuben Melt also has 15 grams of saturated fat, while the pot roast sandwich has only 6 grams of saturated fat. For context, the National Library of Medicine recommends consuming no more than 22 grams of saturated fat in a 2000-calorie daily diet.

How to amp up the protein and fiber in your pot roast sandwich

While the main reason people tweak the sauces and toppings on a sandwich is to change the flavor or texture, you can apply the same concept to give it a nutritional boost as well. For example, if you've really got your mind set on that Beef Pot Roast sandwich, there are simple additions you can make to bump up the protein and fiber content in this sandwich. For example, adding cheese and grilled onions makes this sandwich 10X more flavorful, but the cheese also adds protein (7 grams if you've asked for a slice of American cheese, and 6 grams if you go for Culver's special Wisconsin Cheddar Cheese Sauce).

The grilled onions, meanwhile, will add to the fiber content of your sandwich, which you can boost even more with mushrooms, an ingredient packed with both soluble and insoluble fibers which are very good for you. Ordering the beef pot roast on the same rye bread Culver's uses for the Reuben will give you an extra 3 grams of fiber and 7 grams of protein. However, you'll need to ask for this customization in person, as this option isn't available online. Meanwhile, if you're craving a Culver's pot roast sandwich but can't make the trip to order in for some reason, you can always make a copycat version of this sandwich at home.
