Oscar Mayer has been in the business of selling meat since 1883, and since then has grown into a multi-billion dollar empire. Forget sausages, hot dogs, and thick-cut bacon, the brand is so deep into the processed meat industry that Oscar Mayer even collaborated with a beauty brand to make face masks using sliced bologna. Despite the brand's stature, when we tried a seven Oscar Mayer's Deli Fresh meats, our expert was largely underwhelmed. In fact, the only item that truly hit the spot was the Rotisserie Seasoned Chicken Breast, which you really should buy every time for its bold and savory flavor.
The Rotisserie Seasoned Chicken Breast shone in comparison to the other sandwich meats on the tasting board, which we described as "bland," "cloying," and "basic." In contrast, the chicken got straight A's on both taste and texture, easily topping our rankings. "The actual meat is wildly more flavorful than the turkey varieties. It actually has a flavor of its own, rather than that unpleasantly bland, salty flavor I encountered," our expert wrote, calling special attention to the "pop of boldness" in the rotisserie seasoning, and strong, savory notes that were absent in the others. Also, the chicken breast was more tender than the other meats we tasted. "Honestly, this is probably the only Deli Fresh product I'd actively seek out again," we concluded.
Online love for Deli Fresh's Rotisserie Seasoned Chicken Breast
While many of the Deli Fresh meats missed the mark, there's little doubt that Oscar Mayer is one of the best deli meat brands in the country. According to the Deli Fresh website, its rotisserie seasoned deli chicken is made with 100% chicken breast slices, and contains no artificial preservatives or nitrates. The 22-ounce packet also contains nine grams of protein.
The deli meat is extremely popular online, with average ratings of over 4.5 stars across over 6000 ratings on Walmart and Amazon. "Love it! When you can't get to the grocery store for a rotisserie chicken, this comes pretty darn close," one customer wrote on Walmart, adding that "it's not slimy like some of the packaged deli meats." Their only feedback to Oscar Mayer was to cut thicker slices. Another happy customer praised the brand for the convenient packaging. "Having the top part able to reseal makes it convenient to keep in the fridge ready to reach for," they wrote.
The easiest way to eat this is to make a quick sandwich: Slather bread with mayo, mustard, or your favorite condiment, and pile it high with the deli chicken slices. And if you're looking for something more exciting, you can make delicious rotisserie chicken sliders by subbing in these ready-to-eat slices instead of rotisserie chicken.
