Fans know Erin Napier for her interior design expertise, guiding discerning homeowners on everything from warm and welcoming kitchen paint colors to budget-friendly materials for floors and countertops. But according to Napier, what she does inside her stylish kitchen can be just as debonair. For instance, when snack time rolls around, the design pro reaches for a salty, old-school classic: Triscuit Original Whole Grain Wheat Crackers. In an Instagram post, Napier called Triscuits her "favorite food," sharing a photo of the crackers plated alongside an array of cheeses on a wooden cutting board.

Napier's fromage spread appears to include blackberry-rippled chèvre, waxed-rind gouda, and a sharp white cheddar. But any cheese you have stocked in the refrigerator can make a fitting accouterment to this versatile cracker. The longstanding snack was the first cracker to ever be made using electricity, and more than a century later, Triscuits are still a fan favorite — especially enjoyed the way Napier likes them. When the designer has her go-to snack, there's a specific prep step she uses to elevate her Triscuits a notch further. As she shared in the social media post, "Here's my recipe: toast them in the oven, add olive oil."

To do this, simply arrange Triscuits in a single, non-overlapping layer across a parchment-lined baking sheet to ensure an even toast. Roughly 5 to 8 minutes in an oven preheated to 350 degrees Fahrenheit should do the trick. Depending on your desired level of crispiness, you could also try setting the oven to a slightly lower 300 degrees, keeping an eye out for that perfect golden-brown hue as they bake.

Napier swears by oven-toasted Triscuits with olive oil

This popular cracker brand is a staple in simple snacking and clean eating. The Original with Sea Salt Triscuit flavor, for instance, contains only three ingredients: whole grain wheat, canola oil, and sea salt. The result is more than the sum of its parts — and, following Napier's tip, toasting these no-frills thins enhances their already-enticing flavor and crunch.

Craving even more customization? Triscuit crackers come in different flavors, from Four Cheese & Herb to Parmesan Garlic, Fire Roasted Tomato, Dill, Rosemary & Olive Oil, and more. Any of these could serve as the foundation of a crowd-pleasing appetizer for dinner parties or cocktail hours, even an elevated movie snack on weeknights at home.

To whip up a quick yet impressive hors d'oeuvre, try swiping each Triscuit with a bit of cream cheese, then layer with a slice of prosciutto and drizzle with balsamic glaze. Each bite arrives rich, creamy, salty, and texturally dimensional. Other flavorful toppings include smoked lox, avocado and cotija, cucumber and fresh mint, Buffalo chicken dip, cowboy caviar, egg salad, or classic pimento cheese.
