For Tastier Wings At Papa Johns, Always Ask For This

Few foods are as easy to crave as chicken wings. It's hard to eat just one, and there's just something so perfect about the combo of crispy chicken coated with savory spices and tossed in your favorite sauce. If you're ordering wings from Papa Johns, this simple ordering trick can get you the tastiest wings every time.

The trick? Ask for the wings to be cooked well done. Papa Johns bakes its wings, and, as Papa John's employee Dough Joe explains (via Instagram), asking for them well done means they'll be baked twice. Depending on the type of oven a particular location has, an order of wings can take four to six minutes to cook. A well-done order of wings then takes anywhere from eight to 14 minutes to cook, but Dough Joe is one of many Papa John's employees who say the extra time is worth it.

A little bit of extra time in the oven (and waiting a few more minutes) makes the wings firmer, crispier, and better equipped to withstand a deluge of your favorite sauce. It gives customers the best of both worlds: a crispy wing that's still tender on the inside.

Not everyone is a fan of Papa John's 'well-done' wings

Dough Joe's method might be helpful for scoring extra crispy wings at Papa John's, but they don't seem to be everyone's cup of tea. Papa John's has received complaints in 2026 from customers who say that, when it comes to their wings, expectation doesn't meet reality. Full disclosure: We ranked Papa John's 13th in a ranking of fast food chicken wings. Moreover, some folks say that even the best fried chicken chains in the U.S. can't beat homemade wings.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, when it comes to Papa John's, not all customers are on board with the wings, even with Dough Joe's method. Commenters on his twice-baked wings video point out that good wings don't need sauce. Others say the wings are too small or not sauced well enough. Other customers give high marks to the sauce but not the wings, with some saying gas station wings are better.

Ultimately, whether Papa John's double-baked wings are good or not comes down to what you like a chicken wing to be. If you like your wings on the crispier side, asking for them well done is an easy way to add a little extra crunch. If nothing else, you can always give the twice-baked method a try the next time you're craving wings with your favorite sauce.
