How To Clean A Cuisinart Coffee Maker For The Best Results Every Time

A drip coffee maker, like Cuisinart, is perfect for producing large batches of brew with great taste. But to ensure your coffee has the best flavor and quality, many people overlook an important aspect of their coffee machine's performance: cleaning. If you skip an interior deep clean, mineral build-ups and limescale can occur. This not only impacts the taste of your coffee (leading to bitter, muted, or flat coffee flavor profiles), but can also slow its brewing efficiency. Instead for the best — and cleanest — brew every time, you can clean a Cuisinart coffee maker easily by brewing a mixture of water and vinegar, followed by brewing a cycle of plain water.

While you can buy descaling solutions or tablets designed to clean coffee makers, many people find an easy way to clean a coffee maker is using vinegar, as it helps break down scale and minerals that have accumulated over time. Cuisinart recommends descaling its coffee makers every three to six months, by adding one full carafe comprised of three parts cold water plus one part white vinegar, then running the water-vinegar solution through a regular cycle. When it's done brewing, all you need to do is discard the hot vinegar-water mixture, fill the machine with clean cold water (sans vinegar this time), and run another cycle with plain water to finish the cleaning process.

Some cuisinart models have a dedicated clean function

Cleaning your Cuisinart regularly is key to brewing fresh cups of coffee that exhibit the bold, rich flavor notes of the beans without any mineral taste getting in the way. While you can deep-clean a drip coffee maker using its regular brewing function, some Cuisinart models have a cleaning function built right in, making the whole process seamless. Just fill the machine's reservoir with three parts water and one part vinegar, press and hold the clean button to start the cleaning cycle, and then run an extra cycle with plain, cold water.

While vinegar and water is an effective cleaning solution, depending on how often you use (and clean) your coffee maker, you might need to reach for a more powerful descaling agent. For instance, some people say that using citric acid is the most effective way to descale your coffee maker, for its potency and neutral taste compared to vinegar. However, to avoid any lingering acidity from the vinegar solution, you can also run an extra cleaning brew with plain water. You can also take steps to clean your coffee maker regularly, such as washing the carafe with soap and water daily.
