The McDonald's Pork Sandwich We Wish We Had In America

Ignorance is bliss, so they say, and never has this been more true than for Americans who are unaware of what international McDonald's locations have on their menus. Once you know, you'll be tormented by all the magical menu items scattered throughout the world that we don't have access to in the States.

One such item is the Kajzerka Podwójna Wieprzowa DeLuxe, or as we would say in English, the DeLuxe Double Pork Kaiser Roll. This is a feature on McDonald's Poland's breakfast menu — which, by the way, is way more extensive than the U.S. McDonald's breakfast menu. The sandwich includes two spiced pork patties, bacon, melted cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, and a mustard-horseradish sauce, all served on either a wheat or multigrain kaiser roll. Yes — a real kaiser roll with the pinwheel top and delicious fluffy texture that truly puts our flat sesame buns to shame.

But the roll itself isn't the most notable part. It's the fact that the sandwich has pork and bacon. We simply do not get pork sandwiches at McDonald's in the U.S., much less combined with another pork product. Plus, the mustard-horseradish sauce sounds almost too gourmet to the American palate. It shows up elsewhere on the Polish menu too, like on their burgers, and American reviewers who have travelled to Poland and tried it have nothing but good things to say about the spicy sauce.

The DeLuxe Double Pork Kaiser Roll isn't the only menu oddity when compared to U.S. McDonald's breakfast offerings. In Poland, you could start your day with a Mushroom and Cheese McToast, a Cottage Cheese and Radish McMuffin, or a Scrambled Eggs and Pork Breakfast McWrap. We're almost shocked to see so many vegetables like avocado, cucumber, and radish on a fast-food menu of all places.

Generally, McDonald's in Poland is considered to have incredibly good-quality food when compared with other countries. Speculating Redditors suggest that when you live in a country that's well known for its incredible food, McDonald's has to try harder to keep up. "I used to road trip every year from France to Warsaw and back, and we would always hit up the first [McDonald's] on the Polish border because the quality in Poland is so much better than elsewhere ... I just think they care about quality here," one Redditor said.

But for those of us not booking a flight to Warsaw anytime soon, you could achieve a similar breakfast sandwich at home. Start by frying up some bacon and pork patties and placing slices of cheddar cheese on top to get it perfectly gooey. Stack your meats, cheese, lettuce, and tomato on top of a fresh Kaiser roll sliced horizontally. And don't forget the final touch: a sauce made from equal parts mayo, dijon, and horseradish. You'll never go back to Egg McMuffins again!
