Alton Brown Comes To Broadway

Next week, just in time for Thanksgiving, Alton Brown will bring his show Eat Your Science to Broadway, where he will cook, joke and even rock out to a song he's written about Easy Bake Ovens.

He pitched producers on the idea originally by saying: "I want to do a culinary variety show. I was a child of the '70s. I was a fan of The Sonny & Cher Show. I want to do a show that's all about food where there's singing and music, there are demos, [and] there's comedy," Playbill reports.  

The food demonstrations during the show are "very impractical and potentially dangerous things," he says. Things also get messy. People in the front rows get ponchos to keep them dry and the maintenance team at The Ethel Barrymore Theatre will likely have their hands full.  

Since the show runs the day before and the day after Thanksgiving, Brown says he'll be taking this year off from cooking the holiday meal and is taking his crew out for dinner instead.

Tickets are still available, but if you're all booked up with turkey plans next week, remember Brown is working on a web sequel to Good Eats and a late-night food show.  

"I'm still a huge fan of the original Tonight Show . . . even before Johnny. I also really liked what Craig Ferguson was doing. If I really do get a chance to take a run at this, it will be a talk show married to a variety show married to a smart little game show. So . . . a bit of everything," he tells Tasting Table.

There will be plenty of Brown's mad science bit to catch in the coming year. That's something to be thankful for.
