Thanksgiving is around the corner which means it's officially Time to Celebrate. All month long we're bringing you recipes, tips, tricks and stories that are equal parts memorable and delicious.
With Thanksgiving right around the corner, it’s possible that your still-to-do list seems endlessly long and wine might be the last thing on your mind. To help with that, we turn to Alex Alan, beverage director and partner at Freek’s Mill restaurant in Brooklyn, for advice on buying wines for Thanksgiving.
① Cover the Bases
Look for wines that will please everyone but ones that will also complement all the dishes on the table. That's a tall order, but the main takeaway from Alan’s advice is to consider the entire spread.
② Reds Should Be Light
Remember that turkey is a light meat, so there’s no to need to pair it with rich red wine. Pick up reds that are medium bodied and fresh with light acidity, like a Beaujolais or a wine from Burgundy.
③ Whites Should Be Rich
On the other hand, whites should be richer in order to stand up to the heavy dishes on the table. Alan suggests going with a Chardonnay or Chenin Blanc.
④ Rosé All Day
“Don't forget about rosé,” Alan says. “It's delicious; it goes with everything.”
