Obama Lifts Cuban Cigar And Rum Ban

In 1962, just hours before enacting a trade embargo on Cuba, John F. Kennedy purchased 1,200 Cuban cigars. Since then, Americans haven't been able to buy Cuban cigars—at least not in that quantity. Americans traveling in Cuba have been able to bring back $100 dollars' worth of goods legally. Now, that's changing.

Starting today, Americans can stuff their suitcases to the brim with cigars and Cuban rum, provided they're for personal consumption. It's part of new regulations from President Obama and the Treasury Department issued late last week that also allows Cubans to purchase American goods online and the U.S. to import Cuban pharmaceuticals.
