RESTAURANTS

In October, chef Amanda Freitag (formerly of The Harrison) strikes out with her first solo restaurant in the space that formerly housed the iconic Empire Diner in Chelsea. Fittingly, it will eventually be open 24-hours-a-day...As will the East Village spot Empire Biscuit when it opens in September with sweet-and-savory Southern biscuit combinations...A decade and a half as Daniel Boulud's publicist means Georgette Farkas knows her way around a good roast chicken. Look for spit-fired roasts at the Upper East Side Rôtisserie Georgette in October...Also Uptown, Marc Murphy plans to open Kingside at the new Viceroy New York Hotel...It wouldn't be fall without something from the unstoppable Michael White. Higher-end than Osteria Morini, Ristorante Morini will cater to its Upper East Side environs when it opens in November with a ground-floor café and a white-tablecloth dining room upstairs.

Downtown, Chris Cannon emerges from his business breakup with the aforementioned White with his trattoria, All'onda, in the East Village...Balaboosta's Einat Admony will put her own very special stamp on modern Middle Eastern-meets-Mediterranean cuisine at Bar Bolonat in the West Village. We can't wait to try the mint tea gelato with halvah crumble...Per Se alum Jonathan Wu will be popping up again with his take on Chinese food at Fung Tu...Fevered excitement surrounds Ivan Orkin's game-changing Ivan Ramen on the Lower East Side, scheduled to drop in October...Former Isa and Noma chefs will do their thing at Contra, also on the LES...Boston's beloved tapas spot, Toro, will try its luck in the Big Apple...Fingers crossed that Brooklyn Fare Manhattan finally makes an appearance...In Brooklyn, Francine Stephens and Andrew Feinberg of Franny's will reveal Marco's in September...Gramercy Tavern veteran Kelli Farwell is literally on a boat (a former a Navy yard patrol craft) with The Water Table...Finally, in Queens, the M. Wells team will return with M. Wells Steakhouse, in a former auto body shop.

DRINKING

In September, the 80s (and Long Island iced teas) will have a moment at the East Village's Golden Cadillac...It's lady's night every night at Grace in Kips Bay, where female bartenders will be holding court...In Brooklyn, Brooklyn Brine and Dogfish Head Brewery team up to open the Pickle Shack...And when it all becomes too much, make like a Florida Snowbird and flee to The Royal Palms Shuffleboard Parlor in Gowanus for drinks and ten regulation-size shuffleboard courts.
