Taco Bell's Naked Chicken Chalupa

The Naked Chicken Chalupa is the fast-food giant's first finger-lickin' taco

Just as we're finally recovering from the effects of KFC's Double Down experiment, Taco Bell has unveiled the Naked Chicken Chalupa, a taco-like creation that trades the traditional tortilla shell for a crispy fried chicken cutlet. Have mercy.

According to a press release issued today by the fast-food giant, the Naked Chicken Chalupa will consist of deep-fried all-white-meat chicken, molded to resemble a taco shell and filled with shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes and creamy avocado ranch dressing.

We're a bit puzzled as to why something swaddled in a warm, meaty blanket is being dubbed "naked" (or a taco for that matter). But if today's announcement is any indication, Taco Bell is throwing all its weight behind this curious menu item. "We feel confident that once our fans get a taste of the Naked Chicken Chalupa, they are going to understand exactly why this is our next big, fun and craveable innovation," chief marketing officer Marisa Thalberg boasts.

The Naked Chicken Chalupa hits fryers on January 26, selling for just $2.99 each. Taco Bell is also encouraging diners to post their Southern-fried taco experience on social media using hashtag #NakedChickenChalupa. Tacking on #NSFW is optional.
