Momofuku Milk Bar's best-selling pie, reinvented

Christina Tosi of Momofuku Milk Bar came up with a recipe that brings together Milk Bar's famous Crack Pie® and the crunchy goodness that is brittle. The recipe allows you to add any of your pantry favorites, whether it be the last bit of cereal in your cupboard or those potato chips you forgot to finish.

Recipe adapted from "Milk Bar Life," by Christina Tosi

Yield: 4 cups

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 20 minutes

Total Time: 30 minutes


½ cup granulated sugar

¼ cup packed light brown sugar

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1¼ teaspoons kosher salt

4½ tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

¼ cup heavy cream

2 large egg yolks

½ teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup flavorful pantry items (such as cereal, crackers, chips, pretzels, snack mix, granola, etc.)


1. Preheat the oven to 350°. Line a 13-by-18-inch rimmed baking sheet with a Silpat.

2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the sugars, flour and salt. Add the butter, heavy cream, egg yolks and vanilla, and whisk until smooth.

3. Pour the mixture into the baking pan and spread it out with a spatula to a ¼-inch thickness. Crush and sprinkle your selected pantry items over the mixture. Bake for 16 to 18 minutes, until dark brown. Let cool completely, about 15 minutes.

4. Remove the crackle from the baking sheet and break into small pieces using a heavy rolling pin or mug. Eat right away or store the brittle in an airtight container for up to 1 month.
