  • Candace has worked in the restaurant scene and at a local bakery and coffee shop in the beautiful Texas Hill Country for the past two years. It's taught her how to invent new recipes with local and seasonal ingredients and allowed her to share her love of tea.
  • Candace has traveled extensively and loves collecting what she calls "food memories." Trying the local cuisine and documenting it through writing or photos. One of her all-time favorite memories is the Japanese tea ceremony she experienced in Tokyo, where she learned the time-honored way to brew matcha!
  • Candace loves baking. Every year for her birthday, she sets aside a whole day to try out a vintage layer cake recipe found in one of the many vintage cookbooks in her collection. Her favorite so far has been the Victorian sponge cake she made with raspberry champagne jam.

Experience

Candace's love for writing began at a young age. She discovered her passion for food history while researching for her self-published historical fiction novel, "All On A Winter's Eve." This love led her to become the founder of the food history website Feasts of History, where she writes and edits all of her content, including the photos.
This passion also partly arose from her work as a health coach and herbalist. Because she values knowing where our food comes from and how the food we eat affects our bodies, she loves sharing info behind such processes as fermentation, why different spices are beneficial, or how to use the foods in your kitchen to stay healthy through the winter. She also loves offering recipes for favorite foods that use whole, natural, or seasonal ingredients, such as her recipe for homemade Oreos. She believes that sharing and understanding the history behind food allows people to make better choices and enjoy the food they eat even more!

Education

Candace is a certified health coach and herbalist.
