Smorgasburg Opens In Brooklyn This Weekend
Get those stretchy acid-washed jeans ready: Smorgasburg, Brooklyn's annual outdoor food market, launches this weekend. You know it as home of the Ramen Burger and epically long lines of sunburned hipsters waiting for lobster rolls and gourmet doughnuts.
The market takes place in Williamsburg on Saturdays (East River State Park at Kent Avenue and North 7th Street) and Prospect Park on Sundays (Lincoln Road at Ocean Avenue).

This year, roughly 25 new vendors will join the ranks. Among them are #Baonanas, serving artisanal banana pudding; The Choripan, serving Argentine sausage sandwiches; Tramezzini NYC, serving Venetian sandwiches; and BrunchStreet, serving quail eggs on a stick.

One new vendor that's already getting a lot of attention is Raindrop Cake, which makes Mizu Shingen Mochi, a cake that looks like a droplet of water. Another exciting new vendor in the dessert category is Malai, which offers Indian ice cream in flavors like sweet corn saffron, rose with cinnamon, Turkish coffee, and orange fennel.
All told, between 75 and 100 vendors will feed hungry hipsters at Smorgasburg this summer—and that's in Brooklyn alone. The market is also opening two new offshoots this year: A Hudson valley location in Kingston New York opens June 4, and a Smorgasburg in Downtown L.A. opens June 19 (it was only a matter of time until Los Angeles scooped up one of Brooklyn's most iconic food happenings—is anything sacred)?

It's too early to tell whether or not L.A.'s Smorgasburg will eclipse New York's like so many people think the city's restaurants have done to NYC's dining scene. We're eager to find out. In the meantime, it's time to feast, Brooklyn-style.
