6 Places To Eat, Drink And Play Games

Your next pizza could come with a side of mini golf. Or shuffleboard. Or life-size Jenga.

This Memorial Day, skip the grill and get to eating, drinking and burning it all off playing your favorite childhood games at these restaurants and bars around the country. Here are six places where you can get into the competitive spirit:

① Get your shuffleboard on at Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club

The old folks' activity is cool again thanks to the luxe Brooklyn shuffleboard stadium. The space offers ten lanes, self-dubbed "Floridian cocktails" (mandarin orange rum punches and gin-spiked Ball jar concoctions) and a rotating roster of food trucks (Luke's Lobster, Mexicue). Bonus: The bathroom walls are covered in a sunny pink flamingo pattern.

② Putter around at Urban Putt

Take your 9th birthday party. Add booze. Boom, you've got some adult-appropriate fun. SF recently opened its first mini-golf restaurant, where chef Dan Boryta's riffing on classics, like jambalaya and deep-dish pizza. There's even a house brew from Half Moon Bay Brewing Co. at the bar.

③ Play outdoors at Cottonwood

Giant Jenga, anyone? This Houston bar crams cornhole, bocce and, yes, oversize Jenga on its spacious patio. While you wait your turn, there's elevated pub food (jerk-spiced chicken wings, smoked salmon deviled eggs) and more than 30 beers on draft, including local brew 8th Wonder Brewing Company cream ale.

④ Hit a hole-in-one at The Optimist

Mix high (bicoastal oysters) and low (mini golf) at Ford Fry's seafood shack in Atlanta. Hit a round in the courtyard before retiring to the restaurant to tuck into wood-fired fish (duck fat-poached swordfish, garlicky whole red snapper).

⑤ Become a bocce boss at The Croft at Nick's Cove

What to do with extra farm space at your restaurant? Why, build a garden and bocce courts, of course. Marin County, CA, favorite Nick's Cove opens The Croft next month, where master gardener Ross Barlow will grow microgreens, coastal fruits, heirloom tomatoes and more on the two-acre farm (and raise chickens, too). For the non-agrarian-minded, there are two bocce courts with ample seating.

⑥ Prepare to cornhole at The Hollywood Tavern

The best way to tone those arms for summer: lotsa cornholing. Fresh off the success of Westward, Seattle restaurateur Josh Henderson's got two game-centric spots. First up, Hollywood Tavern, which opened last November, is the place where you can stuff yourself with fried chicken dinners, then burn it all off competitively tossing bean bags. Henderson's also working on a new sports bar, Quality Athletics, near the Seahawks stadium; details are scarce but best descriptors are "Wes Andersonian." Time to get out the red jumpsuits, à la Royal Tenenbaums.
