Most people have tried Oreo cookies, especially considering how many flavors of the iconic sandwich cookie are available. But what if you got your hands on an Oreo that few others get to taste? An exclusive Oreo may sound like an influencer's dream, but it's a real thing and you've got a shot at taking a bite of this special cookie.

Now through November 3, coffee and cookie fans can enter for a chance to get just one of 1,000 packs of the new limited-edition, special-release Espresso Creme Oreo Thins via the Oreo website. These unique cookies are going to be tough, but not impossible, to get. On November 4, the first 1,000 people to redeem an emailed code will get a pack of the new cookies for just the price of shipping ($2.99).

Sounds like a lot of hype for a cookie? You might be right, but to find out, I put the Espresso Creme Oreo Thins to a taste test. Read on to find out if you need to get your hands on this cookie or if an old-school Oreo and a shot of espresso is easier and just as tasty.

Some recommendations are based on firsthand impressions of promotional materials and products provided by the manufacturer.

Methodology

Oreo sent me a box of the exclusive Espresso Creme Thins before fans could get their hands on them. I based my evaluation on flavor, texture, and overall cohesiveness of the cookie.

Taste test: Espresso Creme Oreo Thins

Coffee has one of the most recognizable scents in the food world. Oreos certainly have their own aroma, but the sandwich cookie is hardly known for its smell. The Espresso Creme Oreos, though, have perfectly captured the aroma of freshly brewed espresso. The cookies come in a small box, with two sleeves of 10 cookies each inside.

I'm a huge Oreo fan, and in my book, more Oreo is always better. This philosophy puts me at odds with the Oreo Thins, which feel like an appetizer for the Double Stuf "meal" I crave. Thankfully, flavor trumps portion size with these cookies. The filling is thin but packed with espresso flavor and plenty of sweetness to balance the coffee's natural bitterness.

If you're looking for a cookie that's all coffee, remember that  this is still an Oreo. Mocha fans are going to love this cookie, while hardcore black-coffee-only drinkers might find it too sweet. It's exactly what it claims to be: an espresso Oreo and a darn good cookie.

Final thoughts

When I sat down to review the cookies, I laid out three to pull apart and sample. I ended up eating seven before finally wrestling back control. The cookies' thinness turns this into a potato chip-like experience: It's impossible to eat only one.

I'd love to see Oreo expand on the coffee concept with more options in the classic size. Imagine dipping a Cappuccino Oreo into a creamy cappuccino or snacking on a Caramel Macchiato Oreo at 8 a.m. That sounds like a balanced breakfast to me.
