If you're tired of seeing Chick-fil-A and Popeye's get all the hype when it comes to spicy fried chicken sandwiches, there's an unlikely contender lurking in the wings. In a recent ranking of the best fast food fried chicken sandwiches, Tasting Table gave Jack in the Box's Spicy Chicken sandwich the coveted number one spot. Of course, the ranking wasn't based on heat alone. The writer also evaluated the sandwiches on chicken quality, flavor, size, condiments, breading, and value. Jack's Spicy Chicken came out on top by delivering in every category. 

For starters, the sandwich is noticeably bigger than the others, closer in size to something you'd order in a sit-down restaurant, rather than a drive-thru. The 100% all-white-meat crispy fillet is tender and savory, while the fluffy bakery bun avoids the dryness that dragged down some of its competitors. The tomato, lettuce, and pickles were fresh and added a nice crunch to every bite. Then there's the heat. Rather than blasting the palate immediately, Jack's goes for a slow, lingering burn that's a little more complex than the others.

The internet tends to agree. In a 2025 Reddit discussion, one Jack in the Box fan declared: "[Its] spicy chicken sandwich still slaps and is one of the best." Another chimed in: "Idgaf if im the only one that thinks this, i rank it top 2 items among all fast food chains." In a separate Reddit thread, another claimed: "I've been saying Jack has the best spicy chicken sandwich!!!"

There are dissenters, of course. A recent Reddit discussion surrounding Tasting Table's ranking had all the arguing and outrage of a bill trying to pass through Congress. "No way KFC and Jack in the Box is better than Popeyes," one post said. Another added: "I do not get Jack in the Box. I had it once and it was barely better than Burger King. Maybe I was unlucky because this list made sense until that point." If there's one thing everyone can agree on, these opinions show how much a fast food chicken sandwich's quality can vary from location to location.

Notably, this isn't Jack in the Box's only recent chicken sandwich accolade. In another 2026 Tasting Table roundup of best chicken sandwiches from non-chicken chain restaurants, the chain's Homestyle Ranch Chicken Club landed at number 5 on the list. Reviewers praised its crunchy breading, soft brioche bun, and creamy buttermilk ranch. This is good news for the fast food chain, as its burgers and prices are often criticized. 

Is Jack in the Box quietly becoming a bigger player in the ongoing chicken sandwich wars? While some think a 2026 comeback is unlikely for Jack in the Box because of its debt and lack of a strong customer base, perhaps this focus on chicken is part of its new strategy. The chain may be better known for tacos, curly fries, and a late-night munchies menu, but recent reviews suggest that Jack is more than ready for its chicken close-up.
