Are you hungry for a double cheeseburger, but want to make the best choice possible for your dietary needs? While any healthy diet can include a burger, anyone with allergies or closely monitoring their food intake definitely needs to size up Steak 'n Shake and Dairy Queen before taking a bite.

The tale of the tape results in a split verdict. Dairy Queen's Cheese Deluxe 1/3 lb. Signature Stackburger contains 620 calories to Steak 'n Shake's Double Steakburger Double Cheese's 730. Dairy Queen's burger has 39 total grams of fat to Steak 'n Shake's 50, and 105 milligrams of cholesterol to Steak 'n Shake's 125. Steak 'n Shake's double also has more sodium than DQ's – 1,530 milligrams — whereas Dairy Queen's sandwich has 1,510 milligrams. Steak 'n Shake's double cheeseburger does have slightly less trans fat than Dairy Queen's — 1.5 grams to DQ's 2.

Steak 'n Shake also makes a less sweet double cheeseburger. The Stackburger has 6 grams of sugar against DQ's 9. It has more carbohydrates, however: 45 grams while Dairy Queen's Stackburger has 39. When it comes to protein, neither burger is kidding around; DQ's has 29 grams and Steak 'n Shake 37. And regarding dietary fiber, Dairy Queen's sandwich has more at 2 grams to Steak 'n Shake's 1. In short: If you're trying to cut down on fat, calories, carbs, or salt, go with Dairy Queen. If you're cutting down on your sugar, want more protein in your meal, or are concerned about trans fats, then go with Steak 'n Shake.

When it comes to taste, who has the upper hands?

While each double cheeseburger has its merits nutritionally, there's another way to determine which meal is the cream of the crop: Which of these two chains sells the most underrated cheeseburger in fast food, taste-wise? Food influencer The Endorsement found the Cheese Deluxe 1/3 lb. Signature Stackburger to be mediocre. "I like it, it's serviceable. It's a decent double cheeseburger," he said. He was more forgiving of the Double Steakburger Double Cheese. "Didn't love it, but it does exactly what you need out of a fast food burger," he said.

Over on Reddit, both burger palaces' double cheeseburgers have defenders. Steak 'n Shake has some supportive members on r/burger. "Nice and simple. Perfection to me," one user wrote. On r/cheeseburger plenty of fans showed up for Dairy Queen. "DQ double cheeseburger is so fire," another reviewer opined. When Tasting Table ranked 13 of the most popular fast food chain cheeseburgers, Steak 'n Shake did not make the list, but Dairy Queen landed at the bottom. It looks like opinions are solidly divided on these two double cheeseburgers — in matters of both nutrition and taste.
